Pros news

Quick newsletter this week as I stopped putting content together on Monday as myself and Yvonne have just had a few days away in Cardiff but will be back at work when you receive this.

I have to start with the Ryder Cup. A disappointing result for Europe but I have to say I think that was some of the best golf I have ever watched. So many great shots played and even more putts holed. I'm sure the loss will just make Europe even more determined in Paris in two years' time.

Can I just remind all members that if you go into a bunker once you have raked it please put the rake back in the middle of the bunker.

Don't leave it outside or half in or out of it.

Club news

MEMBERSHIP OFFERS

Membership at Hornsea like most other clubs has steadily fallen over the last 15 years in both the Gents and Ladies categories.

Our ladies membership is approximately 50 less than it was when I started at Hornsea. That's £34,750 less in income at the current rate. With this in mind we are currently offering some deals on full membership. The ladies one in particular is a great deal and I would hope will be very tempting for some.

Please click here for Ladies offer.
Please click here for Gents offer.

Always remember if you propose a full member to join you receive £50 per member off next year's subscription. If you propose 5 full new members your subscription in 2017 would be free. Between 1st October and 31st March the green fee to introduce a guest is now only £10 to help you in your quest to get some new members. If you are a non-member reading this and are interested in joining please contact the Professional shop for more details.

RYDER CUP HORNSEA STYLE

What a fantastic day this was on Sunday. Even though the format for some was a little confusing to start, in the end all cards were marked correctly and it was a very close finish when all scores were added together. It was great to hear lots of cheering and chanting from those playing as all games were played in a great spirit. Rees our stand in Vice-Captain who had sent out an inspirational email to his team in the end came out on top to lift the Tin Mug with only 3 points separating the teams 644 to 641.

It was also great to see how many of his team must have read the email and turned out in blue clothing.

The event raised £116 for the Captains charity. Three individual prizes were also given. £25 each Joe Palmer & Nathan Wright 44pts, £15 each Steve & Shaun Prout 42pts and 3rd £10 each Sally & Adrian Bird.

We shall definitely make this a yearly event to play for the Tin Mug and in two years' time try to get the timing right so we can watch the Ryder Cup after.

JUNIOR FUNDRAISING AM AM

I know I have been pestering you all to enter this event as I was a little concerned that not many had entered teams. Well can I just thank you all now as the start sheet is nearly full which is fantastic. If you are unable to play but would like to donate a raffle prize/nearest the pin prize please drop them into the shop.

Course news

TREE SPADE

Due to mechanical problems the tree spade that was due with us yesterday has had to be put back for a couple of weeks.

GREENS NEWS

Well it's that time of year again when the three month leaf pick up starts!! I'm sure Gareth and his team are looking forward to it!! All ditch banks are now cut and most of the long grass areas are cut back. I'm sure by now some of you will have noticed that unfortunately we have had quite a nasty hydraulic leak on the 3rd hole. It won't look very good for a while but it will grow out.

HEALTH AND SAFTEY ON THE COURSE

Just a few reminders for you on health and safety on the course. The first one I would hope you all do but the other two as we approach winter are worth thinking about.
