It was Yvonne's birthday on Saturday so as a bit of a treat for her and also for all her hard work in looking after me in the last month whilst I was recovering I took her away to York for a night. We stayed in the newly refurbished hotel The Principal, formally The Royal York Hotel. It is a very grand old hotel which had the biggest Christmas tree I have ever seen under the stairs!!! I definitely wouldn't have fancied having to decorate it!
So today is the 1st of December and next time you are in the shop you will see we have put up a few Christmas decorations. They will be kept to a minimum though as Yvonne does not like the shop to look like Santa's Grotto anymore!! Please keep your eye on the shop for some great Christmas offers which will be starting this week.
Talking of Christmas one of the best events of the year used to be the Boxing Day Bring a Prize Win a Prize. Over the last few years numbers have really dropped which is a real shame so I'm going to give it a big push this year. All you have to do to enter is bring a wrapped prize to the value of £5 or more. It is played over 13 holes and for those of you that might be suffering from eating and maybe drinking too much the day before it is a great way to blow away the cobwebs. The time sheet is available in the shop now with times available from 9 o'clock until 10.30. I do the presentation straight after I have the last card in which is usually 1.30ish and so for those that might be going to watch Hull City even you can play this year as they are not kicking off until 5.15. This is open to non-members too so if you have any guests staying with you they are more than welcome to come and play. Let's make it a great event this year.
So this week see's the comeback of Tiger Woods again. I'm sure the worlds press will be following his every shot so it should be interesting to see how he gets on.
I'm sure it will be 50/50 on who wants to see him back playing well to those that want him to fail. By Sunday evening I'm sure a lot of questions will be answered.

LADIES SILVER TEE COMPETITION
On Tuesday the ladies played a little friendly competition from the Silver Tees. Every lady I spoke to thoroughly enjoyed playing the course a little differently. It would be great to see some other sections of the club maybe playing an event off them too to see how they get on with a slightly shorter easier course. 4 prizes were available in each division for the ladies and the winners were:
Silver
1st Emma Hanson 39pts, 2nd Mags Gee 37pts, 3rd Wendy Lockwood 37pts, 4th Judith Thornton 37pts.
Bronze

BOOKING TIMES ON SATURDAYS
It was very noticeable last Saturday that a number of start times that were booked were not taken. Most of these times were with the groups that play. Please if you do not require your time or you have too many times booked can you please cancel the times not required at least 24 hours prior. It really is not fair on other golfers who would like to play but can't get a time.
HALFWAY HOUSE
Can all members that play on a weekend think about the later starters whilst you are at the halfway house. It has been reported that there can be up to 4 groups waiting later in the day which adds about 30/40 minutes to a round and so they are finishing in the dark. Please order your food as you approach the 9th green and on a Saturday please drink and eat as you play the 10th hole. Do not hang around.
CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR AM AMS
Please find the links below with updated sheets with all names on here. Allan Scarlett had been into the shop saying he is short for the Christmas one so if you fancy a game please give him a call.

NEW GRANDAD
I know lots of you over the years have become grandparents but I spotted this photo of Lee Guest who has just become a grandparent for the first time.
Many congratulations Lee.
GREENS
Just a quick note for everyone that plays on a frosty morning. When you are about to step onto the green can you please try and knock off as much ice as possible off your shoes as it really does make a mark if you leave it on. Work has now started on the 16th and 17th as Fineturf started work yesterday.
PONDS
Paul Duckworth has kindly taken on the role of looking into tidying the ponds on the course. He will need some volunteers though and I know he is after acting fairly quickly. If you are able to give a little time to help your course look better can you please contact Paul directly on 07947 244846.
PICS FROM THE COURSE
This week I have a number of pictures for you from David Blanchard, Stuart Pearson, Jan Jackson,Gareth Williams and Paul Lockwood. Can I thank you all as they are all very good this week.
