Further down in this week's competition results you will notice a couple of amazing scores in the Pro's Stableford on Saturday by Neil Jordan and Jon Raw. 

I would just like to mention that both these golfers have recently had lessons with Paul Gibson and the lessons are obviously paying off. 

If you have struggled in 2016 and want to improve your golf I really think a lesson or two with Paul would be well worth it. 

He also has some great offers on at the moment so don't miss out.

 

PRESENTATION EVENING

Sunday evening saw a fantastic turn out for the Clubs presentation event. It is a great way of bringing all the sections of the club together to celebrate all the 2016 prize winners. Can I thank everyone for making it such a great evening. All the photos taken will be available on the gallery area of the Hornsea Golf Club website soon and can I thank Leigh Gawley and his wife Jayne for taking all the photos. NEVER TOO YOUNG TO START 

Now I know this is not the first time John Thackray Jnr has taken his son Charlie out for a game of golf off the silver tees but it's the first chance I've had to take a picture. Let me tell you too that he hit a better shot than his dad off the first!

I just think it is great to see and wish more parents and grandparents would come and give the kids a chance to play on the course and see how much fun this game is that we all play and love. You never know where the next Rory McIlroy might come from. Remember as members all your children or grandchildren get free membership up until the age of 13. You must inform us in the shop though.

   

FIXTURE LIST 2017 

The 2017 fixtures are all available on the club 'app', the clubs website and the booking system. We have however had a few members asking for a hard copy of the fixtures. We have not printed the diary style books for the last couple of years as we have found in the last few years we have thrown a lot of copies away at the end of each year, and it is difficult to ask a sponsor to pay for this. We have however printed a number of calendar style lists for any members not online. These are available from the Professional Shop this week. GENTS SILVER TEE IRON COMPETITION 

As some of you have seen, the sheet in the Rolston Bar is filling up, on Sunday 15th January we are having a Silver tee 18 hole "irons only" competition. No woods or hybrids allowed. There will be separate individual prizes for gents and ladies so it would be nice to see all the Sunday lady golfers having a go. The more that play the better the prizes with half the money raised going to the Captains Charity. It will be a 10am shotgun start with the presentation as soon as the last cards are in.

GREENS - DECEMBER 2016

An application of fungicide and liquid iron has been sprayed to cure an outbreak of fusarium. The mild and damp weather we have been experiencing is ideal for fungal incubation and disease attacks. A liquid penetrant has also been applied to move water through the soil profile away from the greens surface. 

The recent course alterations are taking shape with Fineturfs input all but complete. The new strategic bunker locations will prove challenging for all golfing abilities. There are 8 new bunkers with 6 being filled in. Most of the material recovered from remodelling the mound/hummock on the 16th was used to fill in the bunkers around the green. We were able to save a lot of sand from the 16th/17th bunkers and have topped up the bunkers on 2nd/3rd holes. Most of the turfing will be completed in the new year with the bunkers ready for play around May 2017. 

At the end of November, the council power washed the culvert that crosses beneath Hull Road. This combined with our own efforts of cleaning out the onsite ditches and those around Twin Acres has aided the drainage of the area. 

Leaf collection is nearing an end, with most if not all the trees now shed their leaves.

PICS FROM THE COURSE 

Something a little different for you this week. It's not a picture from here but Mike Guidry sent me a picture of the 18th hole where Jen and himself play whilst getting away from the winters here. This is Fair Oaks Ranch Golf and Country Club, San Antonio, Texas and they have lots of deer on the course which must be more friendly than ours that you hardly ever see. It is always nice to hear from Mike and this week he made me feel good as the weather in Hornsea has actually been warmer than Texas!!! I'm sure that won't last though!

PULLING INTO CAR PARK

 It has been brought to my attention that we have had a few near misses recently with cars pulling into the car park. I know the bollard is not there at the moment but can everyone please keep to the left when pulling in or one day there will be an accident.
