Pros news

Greetings Golfers,

I hope you are all keeping well and those that played at the weekend are now not suffering with heavy colds etc. For the six of you that went out on Sunday I must say well done. Not a chance you would have got me out in that weather. Not even in my big coat and hat!

Hard to think though that the golf season is just around the corner and you should all start thinking about making sure your clubs are all in good order for the season. Your grips on your clubs are really important to make sure you can hold on to your clubs without having too much grip pressure. Once they start to go hard or shinny they really need replacing. You will be amazed how different they will feel too. If you are not sure please bring them into the shop and we will tell you honestly if they need doing or not.

It is not long to go now until the weigh in for the 16 people who started the challenge on New Year's Day comes to an end. Sunday, 26 February at 1 o'clock is when it will be decided in the clubhouse. I'm doing ok eating sensibly and hitting the gym most mornings and so far lost just over half a stone, but having seen Ian Lockwood at the weekend he does look like the favourite to me. He looks like he has stopped eating altogether! I'm sure things could change though with just under a couple of weeks to go.

Divot Bags

It was picked up by not only us in the Pro Shop but also by one of the members that only two divot bags were taken all day on Tuesday. It was quite a busy day too. It is something that really makes a difference to the quality of the fairways in the summer. Please as mentioned before look after your course. Congratulations to the two that did.

Halfway House

Just a quick reminder with the halfway house being closed last weekend, that the club have decided to trial a text service to order your food at the halfway house when you reach the 9th tee. The number is 07541350251. Please make sure if you want food you send a text.

European Tour Fantasy League

Paul Gibson
still leads overall but it was Matthew McDonnell that was the clear winner last week by over 100,000 pts. This coming week's picks will be interesting again as in Perth they are playing a slightly different format. Picking players might be interesting. The ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia and European Tour are set to introduce a revolutionary new format in 2017 as the inaugural World Super 6 Perth features 54 holes of stroke play before the final 24 players battle it out over a dramatic final day six-hole shoot-out.

To be played at Lake Karrinyup Country Club from 16-19 February, 2017 and co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour of Australasia and European Tour, the World Super 6 Perth will be a world-first in professional golf. The World Super 6 Perth will combine 54 holes of traditional stroke play across the first three days with an exciting knockout match play format for the fourth and final round. A regular cut will fall after 36 holes before the field is then further reduced to the top-24 players following 54 holes of regulation play, with any ties for 24th place being decided by a play-off. Those remaining players will then earn their places in the six-hole shoot-out.

Any matches tied after the six holes will be decided by playing the new Knockout Hole - a purpose-built 90-metre hole which will be constructed at Lake Karrinyup, with a new tee placed adjacent to the 18th fairway and utilising the 18th green. The Knockout Hole will be played once and if a winner is still not decided, the competitors will return to the new tee and take on a nail-biting decider, with the victor decided on a nearest-the-pin contest where only the first shot counts. That player will then progress to the next round of the match play or, in the case of the final match, win the tournament.

Club news

Ladies Locker Room

Work really is progressing well and by the time this newsletter goes out all lockers should be in place and new floor tiles should all be down. Some of the ladies have also given it a good clean and paint. Well done to all involved.

I took the below pictures on Tuesday morning as Colin and Peter were taking a well-earned break.

Tuesday Evening

These pictures were taken late on Tuesday showing the new carpet tiles in place and a great job done by member Lee Addinall.

Hornsea Golf Club Band

Well I must say I am a little disappointed that I have not had one review on the videos of the band I put on last week. I was hoping to be able to pass on your comments. Never mind as I'm sure in time they will be performing in front of us all!

Course news

Greens

We have had some fantastic comments about the greens this last week which is always great to hear. Running true and fast after they were micro tined and rolled twice last week to smooth the surface. Nice to see it written down in the member's compliments book too. Don't forget if you have something to add please write it in the books in the clubhouse.

Fairways have also been edged this week and those that have played will have noticed the bunker work is nearly complete. After the strong winds we had unfortunately a damaged pine tree on the 10th that had to be removed. Machine repairs also continue.

Drainage Pipe

There has been a bit of a problem with a blocked drain behind the 4th green recently. Last Thursday the problem was found. This picture shows what caused the problem. Tree roots completely filling a 9 inch pot! Let's hope all the tree's planted over the years don't cause this problem to occur in too many other places.

Pics From The Course

No pictures this week which is disappointing. Paul Duckworth did send me one last week of his near eagle on the 16th but it wasn't that good. Might have been if it had gone in!
