Well I have to start this week's newsletter with news of my quick trip last weekend to Turnberry. Now, I know a lot of people are not Donald Trump fans, but the money he has spent at Turnberry has transformed the complex into what is truly amazing. The Ailsa Championship course is by far and away the best course I have ever played. Every hole without exception is superb and some of the views are just breath taking. The lighthouse, which is now the halfway house, is an experience also with amazing views. You can stay a night in the lighthouse. It only costs £3500 per night!
Many people are saying that before long it will be classed as the best course in the world and I can see why. If you fancy a trip, I would go soon though as they are going to start charging £360 per round in the summer. The hotel, which we stayed in for one night as part of our deal, has also had so much work done to it. Again like the course it has been transformed into a spectacular building with the most amazing interior. There is a chandelier which hangs in the stairway, which alone cost one million pound. It was some experience for the four of us. Here are a few pictures for you and for those that have been before might be interested in the link which shows the changes which have been made to nearly every hole.
Ladies Clothing
Now ladies, don't miss out as yet more fantastic and stylish ladies clothing has come into the shop this last week. Yvonne has yet again, picked out some fantastic items from Daily Sport and Rohnisch to add to what we already have in stock. Very nice it is too.
Masters Par 3 Competition
The start sheet is filling up nicely for the par 3 competition. It is in the Rolston Bar if you fancy giving it a go. There will be separate prizes for ladies and gents.

Alister Makenzie
Great news for all members. We have now been accepted into the Alister MacKenzie Golf Society, which allows members discounted green fees at some great courses.
Please look at the website for more details.
European Tour Fantasy League
So this week it was Rees Brown that came out on top with a very impressive score of 513,652. This had beaten David Prescott and Leigh Gawley were third.
Quite a few changes to the overall leader board also this week. Just shows you only need a good week and it makes a huge difference. Only a few weeks left to get your £5 to me if you want to have the chance of picking up a prize in our league. Paul Gibson still leads the way but only just now with many closing in on him.

Knockout Competitions
This weekend is your last chance to enter the club knockout competitions as the closing date is Monday, 20 March. We have a good entry this year so far but a few more entries would be great. It is a great way to meet members and play against different people.
Hull and District Alliance
The final event of the Hull and District Alliance is taking place today at Hull, with us needing a slight miracle to overturn our seven shot deficit. We also only have a one shot to play with to secure second place from Cottingham, so we need to make sure that is achieved first. Keep an eye on Twitter and Facebook for results. We will hopefully produce a very low number and you just never know.
East Riding Alliance
It was all down to the final event of the season. Hessle were leading by four shots heading until the event. We sent a strong team out that started with Steve Uzzell and Nathan Wright followed by Rees Brown and Sam Middleton with Ady Rosindale and Paul Sellers taking the late time. Steve and Nathan would score a 65, but I think it must have been a case of bad luck on the greens, as they have both said they had lots of chances. Rees and Sam similarly struggled on the greens to a 68. Ady and Paul managed a 67 which playing in the windier conditions was a decent score. These however, proved to be some way short with Hessle's first two pairings scoring 62 (Dave Woodhead and Brian Drake) and 63 (Paul Lockwood Jnr and Andy Greetham).
This meant Hessle retained the trophy by 11 shots, so congratulations to them, but we will be back next year to try again.
Wiles Cup
Congratulations to Craig Pickersgill and Simon Johnson who on Saturday won their semi-final match to make it through to the final of the Wiles Cup. Pond Maintenance
Paul Duckworth is currently leading a few of the members and his eldest son in trying to improve the quality of all of our ponds. On Monday and Tuesday helped by Lindsay Ward, Tom Duckworth and Darrell Slingsby, they did a great job removing all sorts of vegetation and rubbish from the 11th pond. Despite not much wildlife been visible as we play, Paul has all sorts of things. Fish, frogs, snails etc. All the water has been pumped from the 13th to allow it to dry out before the sludge will be removed. The original plan was to remove the sludge by hand digging it but there is too much so it will probably now be done with a digger. Please do not try and retrieve any balls hit into this pond as it is roughly two to three feet deep in sludge. Trust me you would get stuck.
Later this month a fountain is going to be put into the 11th pond to help with aerating the water. This has been funded by money that was raised by Lindsay Ward. Well done boys. You are doing a great job. It would be nice to see a few more volunteers though.
Greens
Those that have played this week will have noticed that it has been a busy week for our greens staff. They have done really well though with all the work on the greens now completed. We just need some good weather now and they will soon recover. Last week the path from the 13th to and around the 14th received some attention. It is now much wider to allow the hedge cutter to access the hedge more easily and also gives more room for buggies. Red shale will be added shortly to finish it off.
Pitch Marks
I am going to mention the dreaded pitch mark theme again. I see more and more golf courses are starting to resort to putting signs up like this one that was on Twitter earlier this week. The pitch marks here at the moment are not as bad, so please keep up the good work on looking after your course.
