Masters Week!
So as this week's newsletter reaches you the early starters will be making their way round Augusta. I wonder who will come out as the winner of this year's green jacket? I do think Dustin Johnson is going to take some beating, but I would love to see a European in contention again on Sunday evening.
It is quite noticeable that the time sheet is getting busier again as the weather improves. Please keep your eye on the booking sheet and make sure you book a time.
We have had a lot of people ringing us from the course asking if preferred lies is still on. Preferred lies now runs from October 1st until 31st April, so you still have a few more weeks to go yet. I shall remind you all when it comes off.
After many months of grief from Yvonne and many others I have decided to shave off my beard. Back to needing to shave every day! Funny though as hardly anyone has noticed.
Pond Hole Water Feature
Those of you that have played since last Friday will have seen the new additions to the 11th hole. We now have two pond aerators which should help with the quality of the water. Fantastic they look too.
This was a project all organised by Paul Duckworth with a small team of helpers. Firstly, power had to be got to the pond and thanks goes to Stuart Pearson for sorting this, after a trench had been dug by John White.
The whole project was funded by monies raised during Lindsay Ward's year of Captaincy. We should maybe name them Lindsay's sprinkles…
Colin & Peter Busy Again
On Tuesday Colin and Peter were again busy at the club. This time making sure the fountain outside the clubhouse was looking good for the upcoming season.
Thanks boys. You do a great job.
Ropes
So last week saw all the ropes taken in. It is a shame though that some golfers still continue to take trollies between bunkers and the green despite the sign near the 1st tee. If you are out early you really should be careful as tell-tale tracks are left in the dew.
Greens
On Tuesday some of you might have noticed that we had some equipment here on demo to help with grass management. Regular use of this sort of equipment would really help to encourage the finer grasses to grow. It was also quite impressive how quickly it worked through the long grasses and also how it cleared through bracken and brambles with ease.

Members' Meeting
The date of the next members meeting is Thursday 20th April. It would be nice to see plenty there for a change as we will be talking about trying to improve our practice and short game facility.
Wiles Cup Final
On Sunday the Hornsea pair of Craig Pickersgill and Simon Johnson played at Hull Golf Club in the Wiles Cup final against a pair from Cave Castle
A good group of supporters turned out to cheer on the Hornsea pair in what turned out to be a very up and down game.
After 12 holes the Hornsea pair found themselves 2 down with the Cave Castle pair playing some very steady golf.
Craig on the 13th though made a fantastic birdie 2 to get them back in it and a par 4 on the 15th saw the game back to level.
Simon then made a great 4 nett 3 on the 17th and it was looking good for the Hornsea pair taking a 1 hole lead going down the last.
The Cave Castle pair both had shots and in the end after they had made a nett par Craig had a 6 foot tricky putt for the trophy. It was so close but his ball just lipped out so back up the 1st hole they went.
This time however, Craig when he had his chance made no mistake holing a great putt for a birdie and again we see a Hornsea pair win the Wiles Cup.
Really well played Craig and Simon and a big thanks to all that went and supported and also to Andy Dickinson and Mick Russell for caddying.
East Riding Union Dinner
Last Friday evening I attended the East Riding Union Dinner along with other club members. What a great night it was too with excellent food, great speeches and good company. Thanks to Howard Palmer as the East Riding President for making us all so welcome and for organising such a great night.
Clubhouse Functions
The next function in the clubhouse is the Annual Dinner Dance on Saturday 13th May. Tickets will be available shortly so make a note in your diaries.

Masters Par 3 Competition
So this Sunday see's Malcom Train try to defend his Masters Par 3 title. The pressure will be on though as quite a large field will be after his title and the coveted checked jacket.
We still have a couple of spare times if anyone fancies it. There are individual prizes for ladies and gents.
Tuesday Club
This Tuesday was the first week of the Tuesday Club Snug Putter.
It was good to see so many playing and please remember all gents members are welcome to come along and play.
