Busy Week at Hornsea
Quick newsletter this week as I have been a little busy and not had too much chance to put my fingers to the keyboard this week. There isn't even a silly picture of me for you to laugh at to start off the newsletter, but I might appear later!
Callaway Demo Day
On Tuesday we had a Callaway demo day at Hornsea. It was interesting to see how everyone got on with the new Epic series of clubs. Can I thank all that came and had a go and thanks to all who placed orders.
Request For Fish For The Ponds
After the recent great work on the ponds by Paul Duckworth and his team, Paul would like to introduce some fish back into all the ponds. If anyone has any fish or would like to make a donation please speak to us in the shop or have a word with Paul Duckworth. Wouldn't it be great to have the ponds full of fish again like they used to be.
England Golf - Handicapping
Can all golfers please be read the following regarding handicapping.
Recording of Non-Qualifying Scores - Amended WordingFrom 1st January 2017 England Golf require
players to return all scores in competitive golf in Non-Qualifying Competitions away from the players home clubs, to assist handicap committees with handicap reviews. (CONGU UHS - Clause 4.5b/8.12).
England Golf has made this decision in order to promote the integrity of the system, and maintain player confidence in handicapping.
Please note these scores must not directly affect a player’s handicap, but should be used as ‘supporting evidence’ of performance when it comes to a handicap review.Individual scores or Team results must be returned in all Singles, Am-Am and 4BBB with the exception of Texas Scrambles, Foursomes and Greensome competitions, or casual social rounds.
In addition to this, clubs should also be aware of regular roll-ups that take place at their club, and the performance of players in the various formats of those roll ups, without the need to formally record individual scores.
To assist with the return of scores, we advise that clubs outline a process to allow players to record these scores.
It is recommended that this is done directly to the Handicap Committee, and that the Committee keep a copy of all information for the current year and one previous year. The information does not have to be recorded on the handicap software, but should be stored in a format that can be used for any handicap review.
Information to be recorded:
- Date of Competition
- Format of Competition (inc Handicap Allowance)
- Venue/Course
- Tees used ? SSS of Course
- Names of playing partners (if a team/pairs event)
- Score returned
Failure to return these scores by the player could result in loss or suspension of handicap under clause 24.1.
To minimise the work load of the club committee, we have produced a template form that clubs may use to allow players to record non-qualifying scores (Non-Qualifying Scores Return Form).
Guidance to Clubs running Open Competitions. We also request that clubs running open competitions return the scores of the top 5 places to the player’s or team’s home club. To assist with this, we have designed a pro forma that a club can complete and return. This could be done by post or email (NonQualifying Scores Open Return Form).

£1. Please give generously.
Thank You.
Members' Meeting Tonight is the Members Meeting. It would be nice to see plenty there as we will be talking about trying to improve our practice and short game facility at Hornsea.
Ladies B Team Win Again
On Wednesday the Hornsea Ladies B team took on Fulford at Hornsea. Another great win for Hornsea again 4 games to 2.
Well done girls. Keep up the good work.
Hull & District Beverley Trophy
Last Thursday the final event of the Winter Alliance season was played at Ganstead. The Beverley Trophy is played as a very tricky 3 out of 4 am am medal format. This format needed consistency from all players to avoid having any nightmare holes and a score around level (216) would be considered a good score.
Hornsea sent 3 teams to the event and all placed well. The team of Adi Rosindale, Sam Middleton, Paul Sellers and Mark Cooke scoring 8 under, 208 coming third. This however wasn't good enough as myself, Nathan Wright, Gareth Williams and Malcolm Train took home first prize with 12 under, 204.
Me and Gareth were fairly erratic off the tee but got away with it and picked up shots steadily along the way. Nathan made use of only 2 of his shot holes but made 4 birdies taking advantage of only needing irons into all the par 5s. However Malcolm was the star man of the team after a shaky start he picked up 5 shots in the last 10 holes to carry us to the trophy.
Well played team!
Captains Champion
Well done Alan Barker who last week with a fantastic score of 41pts became the Hull and District Champion. He managed to tame the Beverley course when all around him struggled.
Well done Alan.
Qualifiers For Mark Hurn
This Sunday is the Mark Hurn Trophy and the below are all the qualifiers this year. This trophy is played in conjunction with an individual stableford for everyone else.
Click here to see a list of the qualifiers.
Good luck to all.
European Tour Fantasy League
Well it was another terrible week for me this week as only 3 of my 6 players made the cut and then they struggled.
Looking down the Hornsea list though most struggled apart from Dave Blanchard who made some inspirational picks and moved away from towards the bottom of the league.
I wonder if he can keep up the good form. By the looks Steve Robinson is in need of a good week to get off the bottom of the league!
Paul Gibson is still leading the way but it's now close at the top. Well it would be if all had paid!
Matthew McDonnell is Paul's nearest challenger and he is in 5th position.
I'm going backwards at the moment but there is a long way to go.
Tuesday Club
So after 3 weeks of the Tuesday Club it is good to see some new people playing. Remember this is open to all the gents in the club and really is a great event.
So far 29 have entered and it would be great to see more enter.
Early days yet but some good scores are coming in.
The first week was won by David Smith with 42pts, the second by Paul Lockwood with a great score of 44pts and this week's winner with 41pts was Dave Laughton.
