Stretton's News
There might be a few things missing from this week's newsletter as it was sent in early on Tuesday and I know you won't receive it until Thursday afternoon. This is because Yvonne has taken me away for a surprise couple of days for my birthday. 21 again you know!
It's not until next Monday, so you all have plenty of time to buy and drop your gifts off!
Practice Facility
If you get chance please watch the television in the shop or the main bar to see a slide show of what is proposed. There is also a picture of the plan here.
Annual Dinner Dance
What a great night was had by all that went to the Dinner Dance on Saturday night. Great food, great company and for a change a disco to keep us all entertained, which had many dancing all night long. That didn't include me though!
The night also raised just short of £450 for the Captains Charity after Allan held what I can only describe as the loudest silent auction I have ever been too! Can I thank Paul Lockwood for taking some great pictures from the night as I forgot…
I did say on the evening that I might play golf at 9 o'clock the next morning with Paul Duckworth and his group of golfers. I must admit I didn't make it.
Lee Guest who had had a great night at the dinner did though, but by the look of this picture that was taken of him after his round I guess he wished he had stayed in bed! Scoring just 3 points in the competition after 6 holes also could have been a reason to stay in bed.
Our Latest President
Sam Middleton on Monday evening became the latest of our members to hold a prestigious title among golf in our area. Sam has become the President of the East Riding Alliance and this picture of him looking very proud was taken shortly after he had received his medal of office.
New Website
We have received lots of great comments about the new website which is nice. We hope you all find it easier to use now. It should be easier for us to update things on it also to keep you informed of what is going on at Hornsea.
I have had a couple of comments about the Twitter feed not been there anymore. It is, and is much bigger, but you have to scroll down to the bottom of the page. If you haven't had a look yet here is the link.

Ladies Matches - Wendy's Report
The ladies scratch team travelled to Champions Huddersfield yesterday, 12th May, for their first match of the season after promotion last year. A really tough introduction to Division 1 golf playing against some county players proved extremely difficult, however despite the result of losing 6.5 - 0.5, the team battled well in some very close fought games. We are looking now forward to the next match at home against Hickleton on the 22nd May.
Angela Clappison, Sharon Cane, Rosie Atkin, Nicky Salzl, Caroline Barker, Wendy Lockwood and Myra Smith represented Hornsea in this fixture. Well played ladies.
Wendy, thanks for a great report and well done to the Hornsea Ladies Scratch team on such a great effort against very tough opposition. I'm sure the experience will stand you well for the rest of the season.
Monday Night Texas Scramble
Despite a disappointing turn out of only 12 teams, the Texas Scramble on Monday evening went ahead and all that played seemed to enjoy themselves, even if they did play most of the evening in light rain. 1 shot is all that separated 3rd to 8th place and just shows you must concentrate fully on every shot. I was away at a meeting at Driffield so was unable to play, but I have a feeling I could be dropped now as the Captain and his team of Lee Guest, Ashley Dexter and Jon Bickerdike came out winning with a score of 56.9. They won £30 each.
2nd winning £20 each with a score of 57.9 was Lee Richardson, Dave Hill, Martin Scargill and John Horner. 3rd was Tony Hood, Chris Wilson, John Cordock and Darren Reeve with 59.9 winning £10 each. Yet again this Texas Scramble proved it doesn't just favour the lower handicap golfers despite what some people think and say.
Silver Tee Iron Challenge
We really need some more entries for this event on the evening of Monday 5th June to go ahead. The sheet is up in the clubhouse in the Rolston Bar. This is an individual competition with separate individual prizes for ladies and gents. You do not need to be in a four ball to enter.
European Tour Fantasy League
It was really hard to pick a team in last week's Fantasy Golf with hardly any top golfers playing. This must have suited the guess work of better than me though as yet again I lost ground!
Paul Gibson still leads the way but quite a few are making up ground on him now so with a long way to go it is still wide open.
Scratch League
I couldn't get this in last week's newsletter, but must mention a great win by the Hornsea Gents A Team as they had a fantastic win over Hessle away at Hessle last week with all players having great results. Well done.
The B Team had a great win last Friday at home against Burstwick. Joe Palmer holing a long putt on the last in near darkness to get the win for Hornsea. What a great start for both teams and both teams are currently leading their divisions. Keep up the great work boys.
Junior Matches
Well I can't not mention our Junior Team now can I. On Monday night in what was a new experience for our Juniors they played away at Bridlington.
Unfortunately, they lost 2-1 but I'm sure they will learn from it. I must say though they did the club proud looking very smart in matching team tops.
Rain At Last!
The grass will grow now! Still only 4mm since Saturday though, so Gareth is still having to use the irrigation system. Yes, it does work for those that are saying it doesn't! Remember I wrote this on Tuesday though so it may have rained since.
This bit of rain has also meant that some fertiliser has been applied to the greens, which will not only give the grass a feed, but will also help to green them up. This is something I know Gareth has wanted to do for weeks, but can only be done when the weather is right for doing it. Work has started on improving the area near the shop where the buggies are parked. A raised bed made from sleepers is going to have heathers planted in it, which should really help improve the area and a hard standing for the buggies will follow.
Pics From The Course
No pictures from our course this week, but I was sent this from some of our members who are currently away enjoying themselves in the Algarve. There are 10 of them in total, not all members here, and after one round they had lost 23 balls between them. I guess the old Super Bock must have taken its toll and that was day one!
Treatment Room To Open At The Golf Club Shortly
My name is Debbie and I am excited to be opening Bliss Holistic Beauty Clinic within Hornsea Golf Club in mid-June. I qualified over 30 years ago in Beauty Therapy and have continued to train and develop my treatment menu to offer a wide range of both Beauty and Holistic treatments.
Dermalogica is my skin care brand and I have trained with and sold these incredible products for the last 10 years reaching the status of Skin Expert at the International Dermal Institute a couple of years ago.
Gift vouchers are available for any denomination and I believe Hornsea will be a super location for a pamper afternoon and packages can be put together on request to include lunch. Members will also be entitled to a 10% discount on products and treatments.

A few things to note from Saturdays competition. First of all is to remember to always check and sign your card this proved very costly for Ray McKie as it cost him second place in division 2. Secondly is the amount of no returns that were put in. If you aren't sure on where your ball has finished take a provisional. Finally well done to anyone that had a good score today conditions must have been very tough with only one person shooting under an 80 gross!
