Stretton's News

Can you all believe it's the 1st June already! May just seems to have flown by to me. I guess that is with the weather being so good though. Let's hope we have a nice summer for a change and lots of good golf is played. If this is something you think you might be struggling to do then why not get yourselves a lesson booked with Paul.

I am noticing that more and more of his students are in the prizes in club competitions and maybe this is the step you need to take. Whether it just be a half hour lesson to check up on some things or a full package so Paul can have a good look at all your game and really try to get those improvements made.

His group lessons are also a great way to move your game forward.

Click here to request your lesson.

If you don't see as much of Yvonne for the next few days it is because her father had a heart attack on Tuesday morning and is now recovering in hospital after having a stent fitted. He is doing well, but Yvonne will be back and forward to the hospital with her mum for a few days until he gets home.

Fish In Pond

A big thanks goes to Keith Swann for putting 10 Koi and 10 Goldfish into the pond on Sunday. I have been asking for a while now and Keith I believe is the first one to do so. If anyone else would like to buy or donate any fish or if you hear of anyone wanting a new home for fish, can you please let myself or Paul Duckworth know please.

Captain's Challenge

On Sunday our latest challenge came from Andrew Giles and David Ahearne. I didn't think I have ever given as many shots! Despite me holing from distance on the first for birdie, we really struggled on the front 9 as David was on fire using his shots very well indeed. Me and Allan fought back on the back 9 and it all came down to the 18th.

Playing under pressure is a tricky art and something these boys need to practice as both David and Jiggy made a mess of the 18th gifting us the game. Well played boys and better luck next time! Many thanks to them both, as they both gave very generous donations to the Captain's Charity.

Practicing Off The Aprons

Yet again we have a problem on the course.

This time it looks like we have had someone practicing from the edge of the 6th green to the 7th green.

This really is not on.

If you know who this might be can you please have a word with them.

Competition news

Hornsea Rugby Club Am Am

On Friday the club hosted the Hornsea Rugby Club for their annual Am Am. This year it was run by Paul Sharp and he decided he'd like to do it a little different by making it a shotgun start with a bacon roll before-hand, followed by a hog roast and entertainment on the evening.

This proved to be a great idea with lots of people staying afterwards to increase the money raised for the Rugby Club. Many congratulations to Paul for running such a fantastic day. Onto the results.

Well played to all that participated and we look forward to the event next year hopefully with some more team outfits like to one below!

Knockout Matches

Reminder to everyone that the deadline for the next round of the knockouts, excluding the Holmes Ramsden Salver and the Cutting Cup is this Sunday, 4th June. Yet again lots of games still to be played with only a few days remaining.

Gents Scratch League

No scratch league games last week. The team are back in action tomorrow night with the first team away at Scarborough North Cliff and the second team at home against Driffield.

Click here to how the tables stand.

European Tour Fantasy League

What a week for me as I made a huge climb back up the leader board taking first in our weekly league.

An inspired pick of Alex Noren as my captain and an amazing last round of 62 by him did the trick.

It was also good to see Mr Gibson's team struggled a little, so yet again the Hornsea league is quite tight at the top.

Ladies news

Ladies Matches

No games played this last week before I had to send this report in.

Junior news

Good Effort Boys

Well the junior league team had a nice game this week away at Ganton. The 3 Anderson boys were the team and they all did very well with it being there first time playing there. The result ended as a 2-1 defeat with Harry and Alfie both getting a half.

On Friday, the academy players are heading to Filey for a day on the academy course there. This is seen as a stepping stone before they can go on the trip with the older boys to Woodhall Spa. Let's hope they have nice weather and have an enjoyable day.

Next Star At Hornsea Golf Club?

Now here are a couple of pictures that brought a smile to my face. Stuart Pearson recently bought some junior clubs from the shop and gave them to his son James. What a star he looks with them. It is to be sure he will be a better golfer than his dad!

Course news

Greens

Lots of cutting this past week. Grass growth has improved with all areas requiring regular maintenance. Just 4mm of rain on Bank Holiday Monday. A wetting agent applied to the greens with added amino acids to prevent stress caused with heat and drought.

Pics From The Course

I have a few good ones for you this week. The first one is from Emma Hanson who took a fantastic picture of the bridge near the pond.

I also quite liked the picture Paul Duckworth sent me from a sign on another course.

I'm not saying where the next picture was taken, but Mark Snape whilst playing on Saturday spotted this nest at Hornsea.

Always great to see the wildlife we have.

Tour news

Best Day Ever!

I don't know how many of you have seen this clip from last week that the European Tour did, but it really is fantastic.

The little boys face as his morning just got better and better is brilliant.
