Stretton's News
I have to start this week's newsletter by saying how much I enjoyed Saturday night at the Golf Club for the Mexican Night. Julie and Diego made a great effort to decorate the clubhouse and also to get the staff wearing fancy dress. Well not only the staff, as I made a slight attempt also!
It was great to taste just how Mexican food should be cooked. Not the spicy food I was expecting that we get used to eating in this country. Well done to all involved and I for one will look forward to the next Mexican evening. Be nice to see a few more dressing up too!
Exchange Days Coming Up
For all of you that like your day's out, we have a few gents exchange day's coming up. The first one is at Scarborough North Cliff on Sunday July 30th. This used to be the old Scorpions Exchange, but after it didn't happen last year, I am now sorting it.
Then on Friday 4th August it is the Captain's away day to Easingwold and then just over a month later we have our annual Filey exchange on Sunday 10th September. The sheets for these and more information will be up in the Rolston bar shortly.
Hornsea Pro-Am - Last Chance
It is not long now until the Hornsea Pro Am on July 7th. There are still a couple of early times left if any of you fancy it.
Always a great day and with 32 teams booked in so far that is our best field yet.
One Or Two Provisional Balls!
I do love it when a member comes in and tells me a story. This time the dirt was dished on Paul Duckworth who on Saturday, whilst playing in the Medal, ended up having to take 10 provisional balls during his eventful round of 99 blows.
What I do like though is that Paul kept battling away and did not 'no return' when I'm sure on many occasions he would have been tempted to do so.
What I wasn't told at the time was that Paul took the money off the person who told me this story!
Open For Business
The treatment room is now open and I am already hearing great things. Why not have a word with Debbie and see what she can do for you.
All very nice it looks too with smart signage outside and the room looks fantastic.
Entry Sheets
The sheets are now up in the Rolston Bar for a number of up-coming events.
Please read the top of all the entry sheets as all the information is there.
Invitation Day - 25th June. (Please only book in 4 balls)
Captains Weekend - 1st & 2nd July.
Jack Major, Norman Seaton, John Wood Chalices - 15th July.
Silver Tee 4 clubs and a putter challenge - 17th July.
The "Open" Am Am - 23rd July.
Cute And A Shame More Don't Do It
What a fantastic picture this is of last year's Captain Craig playing a few holes with his daughter who has just turned 5. It would be great to see more members doing this with either their children or grandchildren.
It is often quiet on an evening with very few people around. Give the kids a chance to play this great game we all enjoy.
Who knows who could be the next world's best player? You might also get a great picture like this.
Knockout Matches
Just a quick reminder for all who qualified for the Holmes Ramsden Salver and the Cutting Cup, this Sunday 18th June, is the closing date for the first round of the knockout stage.
When I looked on Tuesday only 4 of 16 games had been played!
Invitation Day
The entry sheet for this event is up in the Rolston Bar. At the moment, it is very poorly supported. Please if you would like to invite a guest enter your names on the sheet.
It might well be cancelled if more people don't enter.
US Open
Having just mentioned the US Open I thought I would share this video with you all that Lee Westwood posted earlier in the week.
Now this is long grass just 3 yards off the fairway in places! Makes Hornsea look easy!

European Tour Fantasy League
Yet another disastrous week for me with all my team really struggling. What made it worse was Paul Gibson somehow picked Dylan Frittelli in his team. I mean how would have thought of putting him in! Luckily though it was a low scoring week, so little change at the top of the leader board.
Big week this week though with the US Open offering a chance for all to make a move to the top with big points on offer.

Convincing Win!
Last Thursday the Hornsea Ladies B Team travelled to Fulford and had a fantastic win 5 ½ to 1 ½. What a great result. Well done girls.
The Boys Dish Out A Whitewash!
On Monday evening our Junior team had a great result against Hull Golf Club at home beating them 3-0. This shows that the boys are now getting the hang of match play and will move them up the overall table.
Captain Scarlett's Log - 9th June 2017
This month's log is all about golf and my Captain's Weekend. So, here I am, almost halfway through my Captain's year. I have to say that even though it has been hard work and challenging at times, I am thoroughly enjoying my time as Captain - meeting new people and playing lots of golf in varying formats.
Actually, one of the reasons that I took on the Captaincy was because I wanted one last go at trying to get my handicap down before my body seized up completely! Well, it's not worked so far (handicap wise), but I do feel that I am making some progress and my all round game is improving. The main problem is (as you all know) that just as you get your driving going, your chipping or putting goes haywire! And that's when you need to practise whatever it is that suddenly isn't working.
Unfortunately, my Captain's duties and golf commitments don't allow me the time I would normally spend practising. Ironic, isn't it!
Anyway, hopefully in one of my remaining six Captain's logs you'll read about my handicap finally coming down. I do believe I can do it, and that is more than half of the battle.
My Captain's charity, Sparks, we have raised a good amount of money for so far. People have been very generous, so thank you all for that. Captain's Weekend is coming up soon - July 1st and 2nd.
It would be great to see as many of you as possible that weekend, either playing golf on the Saturday or Sunday (or both) or at the BBQ in the evening - although of course I'm hoping some of you will do all three!
If you haven't seen the posters yet (they only went up yesterday) look at the noticeboards for information about the evening.
Hope to see you there. Captain Scarlett.
Greens
Well it is that time of year after all the rain fall and now with warmer temperatures that the grass is now growing at a pace and so it is all hands on deck to try and make sure everything is kept cut. As mentioned recently in a winners speech by a member of Hull Golf Club, it is only when you look around Hornsea compared with all other local courses that you realise how much more area there is to cut at Hornsea.
A request was made by one of the members in the Captains' suggestion book that we could maybe have another divot mix bin somewhere else on the course. This has been done with it placed near the 5th tee. I know some members take the divot bags, but if more did it really would help.
Pitch marks are yet again a problem with us receiving lots of complaints from members about other members not repairing any. Please try to do at least one per green even if you can't find the one you have made. Remember also that a ball makes a mark even if it is not hit from a great distance or comes from a great height.
Pics From The Course
This week's top picture was sent in by Rees Brown and it is of Mark Cooke playing his 4th, yes 4th shot to the 17th from beyond the 18th tee! He had to single putt for a 6!
I also have another of a bit of wildlife with a duck sitting well camouflaged on the 14th, sent to me by Paul Duckworth.
