Stretton's News
Good afternoon. Quick newsletter this week as I have had a very busy week with it being Captain's Weekend, Open Am Am yesterday and sorting everything for the Pro Am tomorrow. Talking of which, it would be nice to see a few members out watching tomorrow as lots of the top Professionals from Yorkshire are playing tomorrow. The first ones tee off at just after 9:30am and the last one is 4pm.
Nothing at all to do with the Golf Club, but I must mention my daughter Natasha who some of you might have seen doing a bit of waitressing in the clubhouse. It was her school prom last Friday night and I thought you might like to see a picture of her all dressed up and ready for her night out. I was very proud of her as she looked stunning. Hard to believe she wasn't even born before I started working at Hornsea!
Captain's Weekend
As mentioned above we have just had Captain's Weekend. What a fantastic weekend it was too. Just a shame with so many other things on, not all the members got to enjoy the fantastic weather, golf and entertainment.
The overall weekend made just over £1600 for Allan's Captain's Charity, Sparks. Many thanks to all who donated so generously.
As I'm writing this on Tuesday morning I am still suffering from hitting tee shots all day on Sunday with a very sore back and I have definitely done something to my arm.
I think my body is telling me I'm too old for doing that now. As for the golf, all prizes were won with some very good scores and congratulations to all the prize winners which can be found below. I must mention Chris Wilson who did a great job in picking up the top prize in the absence of the winner, who was called into work. Can I also just say thank you and congratulations to Allan on your great weekend.

There are still places available for Easingwold though for the Captain's Away day. The sheet is in the Rolston Bar.

Open Am Am
On a day that definitely seemed to favour the early starters, 34 teams played in Hornsea Golf Clubs Open Am Am. It was fantastic again to sit on the desk and listen to everyone's comments about the course and how we run things at Hornsea compared to other clubs. Yet again it made me proud to be part of one of Yorkshires finest courses and what we offer. Many of the people playing come back year after year, but I must give a special mention to the McAnearney group from Hillsborough that have come for the last 10 years and support this competition as well as other events we host.
Fantastic this year that it was one of these teams that came out in 1st position with a great score of 87pts. This was a great score in what, for a change from recent years, saw the last few holes play into the wind, which many struggled to come to terms with.
Please find below the leading scores of which the top 6 teams have either spent or been put into credit at the Professional Shop at Hornsea. Please take note that we are already taking bookings for this event next year which is filling up fast and many others that are available at Hornsea. Happy golfing for the rest of the season from us all at Hornsea.
European Tour Fantasy League
Well it was an ok week for me this week as my team all did ok, but unlike quite a few in the Hornsea league I did not pick Tommy Fleetwood as my team captain. Those that did all came towards the top of this week's leader board.
Shaun Prout after a terrible start to the season is getting the hang of the game now though and topped the list this week. Paul Gibson is still out at the top overall though.
Gents Scratch League
Both the Hornsea teams still lead the way in both of their divisions with only a few games remaining.
Please click here to follow how they are doing.
Thursday 29th June - Mid Week Medal
1st £25 Jon Mitchell 81/11/70 (In the rain)
2nd £15 Jonny Hanson 88/18/70
3rd £10 Malcom Train 83/11/72
2s Comp - £2.20 per 2
Paul Sellers, Malcolm Train, James Leonard and Lee Guest had two 2's.
Hardly any entries today. It wasn't very nice weather, but was it also because it was a Medal? I would appreciate some feedback please.
Alfie's First Win
Our juniors had a great result on Monday night beating Cottingham at home 3-0. I must mention Alfie Anderson who had his first ever win 2up, which included holing a massive putt on the 17th hole. Well done team and really well done Alfie. I'm sure that will be his first win of many in the coming years of junior league.
Pics From The Course
First picture I have this week is just a quick warning that at the moment we have a few flies and bugs about. Just think about what colour shirt you are wearing!
The next few are from the Am Am on Sunday when Rees Brown, our Vice Captain, slightly over hit his approach shot to the 9th hole and poor Tom Elder, who was minding his own business happily scratching the world map, was suddenly struck on the leg by Rees's ball! No damage was done though and I must say Rees nearly got up and down from a very tricky position
