Stretton's news This week’s newsletter is going to be mainly on the Night Golf event that was held at Hornsea last Friday evening. I must admit I was a little sceptical about this event, but there was no need to be as nearly everyone that played loved it. It was about 3.30pm when 2 staff from Night Golf UK turned up to set up the 6 holes which were to be played. Fairly simple looking led lights on the tees, marking the middle of the fairways, around hazards, greens and an illuminated flag stick, were all put in place and ready for the first ones to go just after 5.30pm. Yes, it was dark. Very dark. First on the tee was our Lady Vice Captain, Sue Howell. Now I’m not sure if it was the shot of toffee vodka that maybe went straight to her head, but it wasn’t the best of tee shots, but it really was a great way to get the night going with all around just about falling over with laughter as the ball just sort of popped up in the air and travelled in sort of slow motion about 15 feet. I think Sue was laughing more than everyone else. Quite a few that were playing were now in the bar preparing themselves with a few drinks before they stepped out into the unknown. Standing on the 1st tee as more and more teed off, I was trying like mad to get some good photos as was Leigh Gawley, but it was so difficult to get the perfect shot. It was fantastic though to watch the balls light up and travel through the air. Even more impressive was standing on the 1st tee and seeing the balls hit from the 2nd tee as they looked like fireworks going off. All you could hear was laughing from the course, the odd flash from a torch and the occasional trace of light from the balls been hit. Great fun. At £6.50 each the balls are not cheap, but what a great idea with the added extra little bit of pressure felt by all to make sure all balls got returned. Apparently Hornsea set a record with only 4 been lost. One of which was Tom Walker, celebrating his birthday, who managed to lose his very first shot on the right hand side somewhere near the trees. I bet you all go looking for it now! As the first group finished just before 7pm and the last ones had just teed off, I could tell the night was going to go down well by the comments from the first group were really positive. In fact I’m sure they would have loved to do it again. All of this night’s events was organised by our Lady Captain Sarah, who had done a fantastic job. The clubhouse after was full and there was a great atmosphere. Well done Sarah. Great night which I’m sure all will remember forever. It was just a shame that a few people who had their names down just didn’t turn up which was a little disappointing.
