Hornsea 200 - We did it! Well after quite a few moments where it looked like we wouldn’t achieve our goal we finally completed the 200 holes at 9.30pm about 23.5 hours after we set off! The challenge was significantly tougher than both of us had envisaged and a huge step on from the 150 holes we completed a couple of years back.
The Night Golf element was great fun and it’s definitely something you should all try if you’ve not done it before. There were a few hairy moments when we lost a couple in the pond and several more balls failed on us (the lights went out!) meaning we had to be extra careful with the final balls we had. We also had Look North filming us and we made it onto the news the following evening which was great coverage. On completion of the Night golf, we had the very worrying prospect of completing a further eight rounds and whilst we set of playing some very good golf, fatigue, blisters took its toll on our scores. However, towards the end, having more and more people coming to join us on the course gave us the much-needed adrenaline boost and we rallied. Walking those last few holes was fantastic and being cheered home down the last by seemingly over 100 people is something that neither of us will forget in a long time. The main aim for the day wasn’t about us though, it was about raising money for two great charities and I’m delighted to announce that we have made over £3,200 for CRY and Help for Heroes. We’d like to thank all of the following;
To all our caddies – without you keeping us motivated and carrying our bags there was no way we could have completed it. To Dave Blanchard Snr & David Blanchard Jnr, Al Beaumont & Chris Stephenson for help setting up the course for the Night Golf To Stret & Yvonne Wright for making everyone on the course aware of our challenge and drumming up the support. Stret – an extra word of thanks for tidying the course after the night golf and the great videos you took. Your enthusiasm on the day gave us a much needed lift To Paul Duckworth & Lindsay Ward for organising and running the all-day BBQ and also to Nick Tudor for donating the gas for the BBQ. To Rees Brown and his family for hosting another top event at Hornsea GC and his help with setting the course up for the Night Golf To Paul Lockwood Snr, Malcolm Train, Pete Rotherham & John Cordock for providing the evening entertainment with a great showing of Misty & The Relics. To Gareth & his team of Greenkeepers for providing a truly magnificent course for us to play on with the greens rolling as true as ever To everyone who came to support, cheered us home and donated towards our causes.
