Good afternoon. I hope you are all keeping well. Last week Yvonne and myself went to see my sister who lives near Hereford for a few days. It was a bit of a flying visit but lovely to see her and to have a couple of days away. We also popped to see her daughter who gets married next year; oh and her pet rabbit, Wilbur!

The date of her wedding clashes with the Scarborough exchange so someone else will be required to sort that next year.

So, tonight is the Golf Clubs AGM. I wonder if it will be the same faces that attend each year. It really would be nice to see the clubhouse full and also to see some different people attending. All comments are always discussed after in board meetings so don’t just think it is a waste of time. It starts at 7.30pm.

There were three places available for the board of directors this year and we have had three people nominated, so no vote will be required. Rosie Atkin is staying on and Keith Marshall and Adrian Bird are the other two that have put themselves forward. I am already looking forward to working with them.

Yesterday my niece gave birth to a future champion golfer! Many congratulations Laura and Jordan on the birth of your son Austen.

Great Uncle Stret. I quite like the sound of that; I shall be sorting his first golf club this week!

Club News

Jack Becomes South of England Boys Champion

What a great week Jack Maxey had last week. Whilst away on holiday visiting relatives down South he entered the South of England Boy’s Championship. This is a four-round event with many of the best juniors around playing. Some had even come from Dubai to play in it. After a 74 to start, Jack then put together three great rounds of golf 67,69,69 to leave him on seven under par. These scores were good enough for him to take the title by two clear shots. Well done Jack.

Ladies Away Weekend

Our ladies have returned after what I hear was a fantastic time that our Lady Captain Sue had organised with them all going to Breadsall Priory. By the looks of some of the photo’s I have seen they certainly looked like they enjoyed themselves!

Filey Exchange

The time sheet for the Filey Exchange is now up in the clubhouse and also shown here. There is still room for three more fourballs if anyone wants to go. Please enter your names in fours on the sheet in the clubhouse.

For those that have put down can you please start paying in the Professional shop next time you play. A bus has been sorted for the 16 that had put their names down and the cost split between the 16. There will only be room for carry bags though.

Saturday Super 6

For those of you that are football fans and maybe play the Saturday Super 6, I’m going to run a sweep this year with prizes for the top three if enough enter. I know we are a few games in but already there area lot in the Hornsea Golf Club League. If you are already in the league and want to enter please hand £5 into the shop next time you are passing. Steve Robinson Hard at Work

On Friday, Steve Robinson was up at the club on his own, weeding and putting bark chippings around the plants near the clubhouse.

Steve does a great job keeping these areas looking good but he really could do with a little help at times. Lindsay Ward also does a great job with the beds around the shop but again I am sure he could also do with a little assistance every now and then. Please if you can spare a little bit of time can you please let me know.

European Tour Fantasy Race To Dubai

Another poor week for me which saw me slip down the overall league. David Maxey just keeps picking a good team though week after week and just doesn’t look like slipping up at all. He again was in the top three. This week it was Chris Grubb that came out on top winning by quite a large margin but in the overall table he is still struggling. Will anyone catch David? It looks like there is only Jon Mitchell or Mike Smith that could now.

Gent Over 50's AM AM

Burstwick 3rd Division Open

Last Saturday Burstwick held their 1st, 2nd & 3rd Division Opens. I saw in a Tweet that one of our members did ever so well and won the 3rd Division. Well done Nick Purdy, he scored 42pts

East Riding Alliance Dates

I do find it hard putting up the sheets for winter golf but the sheets for all the gents East Riding Alliances are now up in the clubhouse.

Look carefully as you can just make him out near the door to the halfway house kitchen playing backwards!

Greens Report

I’m starting this week’s greens bit with a bit of bad news. I’m sure some of you will have noticed that we have had a slight oil leak on the 1st green. Hopefully this should grow out quite quickly though and leave no long-term damage. These things happen occasionally and for Gareth and his team it is very frustrating.
This week a little more work was carried out on the greens as part of the two-week greens maintenance programme. This week we have pot pricked them, over seeded and then given them another light dusting of sand. I took this video on Tuesday and show Gareth using a seed spreader to help with an even coverage. Amazing how fine the seed too.

Last week we also had some overhead footage taken to help show where all the old drains are. We don’t really have a plan so this should really help in the future as every hole was done.

Here is how the 3rd hole looks and you can clearly see the drains. If you think back six months to how flooded this hole was it definitely shows we must have a blockage somewhere as there are a lot of drains on the hole. A job for the winter to check them out!

They Have Not Gone Missing!

So, in the school holidays, we have got used to seeing quite a bit of the Anderson family. All the hard work they put in is always noticed by many of the members. Well I’m sure some of you will have noticed they have now been missing for a few weeks. This isn’t because they have fallen out of love with the game but they are on a family trip of a lifetime to visit family in Australia. From the pictures and comments, I have received from their dad Richard they are having a fantastic time. Surprise, surprise, they have played golf though and Alfie won the money even using clubs he had never tried before. Here are a few pictures of them playing Brook Water.
