Welcome to another exciting edition to Hornsea Golf Club's weekly newsletter. We hope that you're having a good week both on and off the golf course. Enjoy the read.

Stretton's News So, this week has not been the best for golf with all the rain and some quite testing conditions when the wind blew too. I had a feeling the good weather wouldn’t continue! Our summer stock is starting to arrive now though, so keep your eye on the shop for the ever-changing displays. Most things now are pre-ordered nearly a year in advance, so difficult to predict the weather and sizes! Please bare this in mind if you do like the look of something. This was just a few box’s that arrived on Monday!

With Paul away three of the next four weeks on his coaching trips to the Algarve which I mention later, if anyone is really struggling with their game, please give me a shout and I shall have a look for you at trying to get you sorted. So, last week, I asked if anyone could tell me how much the equivalent cost would be now to play after 5pm compared to what it was in the poster from 1938. Howard Palmer was quick to reply with £6.66 and Steve Robinson sent me a link to a website that worked it out to be £6.22 in 2015. Interesting how even back in 1938 deals had to be done on green fees. This picture popped up on my Facebook earlier this week. It was from a good few years ago when Glen Darnell used to help out with the juniors. Great to look back and see that some of these are still playing. Not sure what was going on with Nathan’s hair though! |

Knockout Competitions Entries so far for this year’s knockouts are down a little, so we have decided to extend the closing date until Sunday 31st March. If you haven’t entered any of them yet, please read the rules and I have attached an entry form here which you can fill in and drop off at the shop or post your entry in the competition box in the Rolston Bar. Click here to entry forms. |
The Masters Par-3 Competition The sheet is now up in the clubhouse for The Masters Par-3 Competition. This will be a 10am shotgun start. This event last year was cancelled due to poor weather, so let’s hope this year is a little better. There will be prizes for Ladies and Gents. Two years ago, the winner was Mark Barrass and hopefully he will be able to present The Masters Jacket he won to this year’s winner. That’s as long as he hasn’t sold it! Click here to learn more.

European Tour Fantasy Race To Dubai It was another poor week for me as my team all struggled, but thankfully for me, so did just about everyone else’s! It was David Maxey who this week topped the standings which has helped him move up a few places in the overall table. Gareth Maiden is still the person to beat though as he is still out in front. At the time of writing this I am still waiting for eleven people to pay. An email should have been sent to those that have still to pay rather than me naming on here! |

Hornsea Rugby Club Am Am The start sheet is slowly filling up for the Hornsea Rugby Am Am which is to be held here on Friday 24th May. It is a shotgun start at 2pm followed by a hog roast. If you would like to enter a team please let us know. At the time of me writing this we have five tee’s left. |
Clubhouse and Catering News Sunday lunches again this week were very popular with some people having to be turned away. Please make sure you book with Emma if you want to try it. Another addition to the bar this week comes in the form of a new larger, Moretti, which is already selling well.

I have also been told from Peter Mounfield that a Hornsea pair did even better at Ganstead last Thursday in horrible conditions in the East Yorkshire Ladies Winter Golf Association. With heavy rain and a strong wind blowing, and even after starting with a ten; Sue Howell and Pam Mounfield won the event with a score of 78. Just show’s you should never give up despite how you start. Thanks for letting me know Peter. It would be nice if someone could send me a full report of these events and anything else if Hornsea do well. Remember though, despite you receiving this newsletter on a Thursday afternoon, I have to have it ready by Tuesday lunchtime. |

Course Maintenance Weather permitting, the preseason greens maintenance should start on Monday. With this in mind, please be aware that some temporary greens will be in play whilst they are doing the works. I have asked Gareth to make sure these are cut but they can only be cut to the height of the tees. The plan is to tine the greens twice firstly with a larger spike to roughly 300mm, top dress with sand, brush in then tine again with a slightly smaller tine to help close the holes like we have done before. Roughly 30 tons of sand will be used. The greens will then be rolled to help even out the surface. As I mentioned at the start of this things might be different if the weather doesn’t improve. |
Greens News All the tee’s have now been tined and cut this week. It was nice to give the greens a hand cut too at the start of the week. Scarifying of the fairways should hopefully be completed by the time you receive this, and some general tidying up around the course has been done. |
Photos From The Course Just one of a pitchmark this week with a view of what the ball see’s! Please make sure you repair at least two per hole.

Paul Away on His Coaching Trips I mentioned earlier in the newsletter, that Paul is currently away in the Algarve on the first of his coaching trips. These really are a great way to get your game ready for the season as he goes through all aspects of the game. He is already thinking about next year’s trips, so if you would like to go, I would make sure you have a word with him before they get booked up. Here are a couple of pictures and videos of what he has been up to this last week. The weather looks a little better than here too! |

Motocaddy has always been at the forefront of trolley innovation, with the world's first GPS electric trolley amongst their ranks. Well, this year they’ve made some significant upgrades to the immensly popular S1 model, which we think you're going to love. |
| New Motocaddy S1 electric trolley (2019) |
|
We don't like using the term 'entry level' to describe the new S1 as it offers so much more than what this suggests. At first glance, you'll take a liking to its modernised styling and graphics, which will really help make it stand out from other trolleys on the market. Then you get to its technology: new and improved sunlight-friendly LCD display, nine speed settings, advanced battery meter so you needn't worry about it running out mid-round without knowing, and a super-lightweight Lithium battery to name but a few. The new S1 for 2019 is as good as it gets at this price point, so pop in-store to take a look and get one in your hands. |
