Stretton's News I have had a few people asking recently when the results of the survey that the club did will be available. We have been waiting for England Golf who ran and organised the survey to get back to us, and we believe this should all be ready for next week to display in the clubhouse and hopefully on email for you all. One thing that has been pointed out to us is that it is a shame more members don’t try to encourage others to come and join. Did you all know that if you propose a new member and they re-join the following year you will receive 20% of their fee off your subscription the following year. Now with 12 months to do this you could make your golf even more reasonable in 2020. Paul is away in Portugal again this week with another coaching trip and by the looks of his vlogs they are having a great time again. I know he has already had quite a bit of interest regarding next year, so if it is something you are interested in, I would have a word with him when he is back. |
Just a quick reminder as lot’s are asking, preferred lies stays on until the end of this month. When a player’s ball lies in a part of the general area cut to fairway height or less, the player may prefer the lie within six inches. See Model Local Rule E-3 for details of how this must be done. For the full text of any Model Local Rules referenced, please refer to the Official Guide to the Rules of Golf. Unless otherwise noted, the penalty for breach of a Local Rule is the General Penalty. |
If anyone wants to upset Nathan, just ask him how he is getting on pricing up our yearly supply of tee pegs. It is not his favourite job!

First Full Yorkshire Game For Jack What a start Jack Maxey had in his first game for the full Yorkshire side. It even got a tweet from Yorkshire. It is mentioned below how he got on. |
East Riding Union Dinner Last Friday, eleven members of Hornsea Golf Club attended the East Riding Union of Golf Clubs’ 71st Annual Dinner, at Willerby Manor Hotel. It was a very good night for Hornsea Golf Club. The president, Andy Woodhead of Hessle Golf Club, in his speech, highlighted Jack Maxey who represented the Union at England Golf regional Coaching Squad, Luke Robinson and Matthew Raybould in the Yorkshire team, and Jack Maxey in the Yorkshire under 18’s team – Jack is the Yorkshire Boys captain for 2019 ( the day after the dinner, Jack represented Yorkshire at Senior level- he won his opening foursome 4&3 but was narrowly defeated in his afternoons singles match 1 down but it was a big win in the end for Yorkshire 12/3 - a great start to his Yorkshire career.
Jack won individual trophies for the Golden Jubilee Trophy and the East Riding Boys’ 2018 Championship. The President was delighted to announce that the East Riding Union won the 2018 six man Yorkshire team Championship for the first time for 43 years - Jack Maxey, Nick Raybould Leigh Gawley, all from Hornsea Golf Club made up half the team! This is a tough completion, as all six players have to count over two rounds of scratch golf.
The president continued to present the ERUGC Scratch League Trophy Division 1 to the Hornsea Team, who were represented by Rees Brown, Leigh Gawley, Jack Maxey and Nick Raybould. Hornsea also won the ERUGC team championship as well!

If that lot doesn’t wet your golfing appetite, I don’t know what will! That’s a lot of traffic on the golf course, please remember to respect the course, take care when its wet and please don’t take trollies / buggies between bunkers and the greens. Also, please repair pitchmarks, even if it’s not yours it takes 20 seconds! No Captains Challenges to report on as the one we had lined up was unfortunately cancelled due to bad weather. It was great to hear that Hornsea won the East Riding & District Gents Winter Alliance Presidents Salver. Congrats to Steve Uzzell, Paul Duckworth, Luke Robinson, Sam Middleton, Nathan Wright & Malcolm Train. To add to that It was great to see Jack Maxey was picked for the full gents Yorkshire team, it seems as though his career is only heading in one direction! Congrats to all of you! Captains Prize Tickets are selling nicely for the trip to the Algarve, If I am not around there are tickets behind the bar or in the pro shop That’s all for now, happy golfing!

Update From The Course As I write this on Tuesday at last we have a little rain. The first in roughly three weeks. Not good for the golfers out playing but it was much needed for the course especially the tee’s and greens which recently had fertilizer applied to them. The greens were also on Tuesday morning sprayed with a wetting agent. Now this was a learning curve for me as I thought rain was a wetting agent but how wrong I was. The wetting agent actually is like soap and is applied to help rain penetrate the main soil profile, and also helps to condition the soil and aid better growth on the greens. We could do with some warmer weather now, however, the cold nights and occasional morning frosts are not what we want. Some work has been done strimming and tidying the copses. A few leaks have appeared on the irrigation system and these have been fixed. Fairway discs have been edged round and some of the greens banks have had a trim. We are also planning some works to try and improve the quality of the fairways.

Photos From The Course Now this one did make me giggle as I have done this before. It is Shaun Prout who thought he would see how quickly his new electric trolley would go only for it to get slightly ahead of him, tip up and dump his clubs on the ground! I don’t think he will be trying that again.

Holiday Photos Just a couple this week from our Captain Dave as he had a quick mini break in the Algarve last weekend. I do wonder if he was there though as he isn’t in the pictures! As mentioned before, if you are away please send in your pictures. |

One Last Thing On Friday morning, I shall be putting up the sheet up in the Rolston Bar for the Texas Scramble which is to be played on Monday, 20 May and is a 5pm shotgun start. Everyone loves a Texas Scramble, so make sure you get your names down. There will be separate ladies prizes as long as there are two or more teams to play for their own prize fund.

Boa constrict your footwear |
There's been two major trends in the golf footwear market in recent years: the first is the surge in spikeless shoes, and the other is Boa. So, what actually is the Boa Fit System and is it anything to do with snakes? |
| FootJoy UltraFIT Boa golf shoe
|
|
No, it's nothing to do with snakes. Phew. Rather, the Boa Fit System has revolutionized footwear for the better and we absolutely love it. Instead of using traditional laces, Boa utilises a steel wire (virtually unbreakable) that is effortlessly tightened via an easy-to-use dial strategically placed on the shoe (seen above). To loosen, simply pull out the dial and open up at the tongue. |
With FootJoy's UltraFIT Boa, which is available in-store now, you will be guaranteed a comfortable fit every time safe in the knowledge that your laces will not come undone or get tangled throughout your round. If you haven’t already experienced Boa, then we implore you to come down to the store and try on this fantastic option today - no obligation. |
