Captain Challenge
On Sunday Ross and myself had our first Captains Challenge. This came in the form of the “Big Hitting” Martin Rowbotham and “Live Life Like a Tiger” Paul Duckworth, it was going to be tough. The weather was fine for the first 7 holes but standing on the 8th tee rain started to fall. It definitely wasn’t the light rain that was forecast either, as for the rest of the round it was quite miserable. Some steady golf from Ross and myself saw us win the 9th and take a 2 up lead, all was going well. A couple more wins as we started home, one thanks to a poor 3 putt from Paul on the 12th hole, put us 4 up with 4 to play. The game was not over though as they started to rally and won the 15th and 16th with nett birdies. This was then followed by what I can only describe as a horrible worm burner from Martin on the 17th which somehow just got over the ditch, jumped up over the bunkers and ran up the green to about 10 feet. I seriously thought it was going to go in! I thought it would be a certain 2 after that tee shot and as mine and Ross’s chances slipped by it was down to Martin to try and take it down the last. His putt set off and never looked like going in. The victory was ours and we start our unbeaten run! Many thanks for a great game though and for both of your very generous donations to the captain's charity. Here are some videos from the day teeing off on the 5th and I must also include a couple of videos of Paul playing his approach shots into the 7th and 9th holes both from interesting positions. I don’t think I have ever seen anyone so wide! Great entertainment though!
