A New Look for The Shop!
Quick newsletter this week as we have been a little busy. This week we have started on changing the counter area and adding more slat walling to the shop. It has been there for well over 30 years so I guess the counter area was in need of doing. I must say I don’t like it when the course is closed like it was again on Monday and Tuesday but it did mean it was easier to do the work. We need to thank Jonny Fisher for his fantastic joinery skills and ideas, thanks also go to Lee Addinall for fitting a new entrance carpet. As this newsletter reaches you please bear with us as we still have a bit to do before it is all finished for now. We plan to do the other side of the shop next winter. Here’s a video for you, I took one early on Monday morning after the shop had been emptied and the old counter had been moved. The next was taken at lunchtime on Tuesday.

Re-Grip Offer
We are running the re-grip your 7 iron for FREE offer again this year. It really is amazing the difference new grips can make to how you play. Quite interesting too how it is actually recommended to replace your grips after every 40 rounds. Now, I know probably none of you would do that but I would think most are playing with grips that will have done 200 rounds or more. Please bring your clubs in for us to give you an honest opinion if they need doing or at least try a grip on your 7 iron. |

Back to winning ways in the captain's charity
Our challenge on Sunday came from Paul Lockwood and one of my old school teachers Peter Rotherham. For a change, it stayed dry for 18 holes! We had a great game and the result was not as easy as it sounds. We just managed to win the front 9, then we played quite nicely on the last 9 to take that and managed to win 4&3 overall with a few bits on top too. Many thanks to Paul and Peter though for a great game and for their very generous donation to Ross’s Captains Charity.

Ross has now confirmed all details of his Captains away trip and what a great deal it is too. £125 for two rounds of golf, accommodation, all food and prizes. The sheet is up in the clubhouse and is limited to 32 places due to the accommodation and there are just 10 places remaining. Can you please enter in pairs on the sheet in the Rolston Bar with who you would like to share a room with if you would like to go on this trip. Please click image to enlarge. |

Course Updates Another really difficult week for the greens staff with this weather really not giving them a break. Trust me, they are trying their hardest just to keep the course open and playable which does have an impact on other things that need to be done. All clubs are in the same boat though, unless they are lucky enough to be on sand like Ganton. I know I keep saying it but we need a dry spell! For those that follow other golf clubs on Twitter etc, you will see that we are doing a lot better than most.

Play it as it lies! Loved these videos sent to me last week by Ashley Dexter of Jack Rollo choosing to play his ball out of the water rather than taking a penalty drop as there was no were for him to take free relief. I don’t think it took him long to wish he had taken free relief though! Having already seen this video Steve Carmichael found himself in a similar position a few days later and made a far better attempt than Jack had done. Great technique there Steve. Click on the video below to watch both brave men!

A slight breeze... Those that played after 10 o’clock last Saturday will understand this picture as it was a little breezy out on the course making conditions a little tricky!
More praises for Hornsea Always nice when a member posts on Facebook great comments on the course. It really has been tough for the greens staff recently.

Last week we revealed a remarkable statistic regarding the number of golfers playing grips that are over a year old, but what impact does that actually have on your game? Well, we decided to do some digging... |
| Tension whilst gripping | Grips are made from rubber and are prone to wear and tear, just like the tyres on your car. When they become worn, your grips will lose tackiness and your hands will start to slip during the swing, resulting in poorer shots.
The thing is, you’ll likely overcompensate by holding on to your clubs too tight, creating more tension and stiffness during the swing.
|
| Limited time offer in-store now | We know it sounds all doom and gloom, but it does make a huge difference to your game. That's why we're running this promotion at Hornsea Golf Club, so you can experience the benefits of a new grip first hand.
There’s no catch, just pop by the shop before your next round to take advantage. |
