Saturday morning saw our first really bad frost of the year followed by another one on Tuesday. It was white over for the early part of both mornings with the temperature struggling all day. We do have some fantastic clothing in stock though that really can help keep you warm from head to toe. Handwarmers and even toe warmers too. I wouldn't want you to be cold out on that course.
Can I pass on a big thanks to Paul Rodgers who has managed to find someone to reproduce the old official handbook from 1949 that Brian Coates kindly lent me. I have had a few copies done and if anyone would like a look they are in the shop. Some great pictures and very interesting information on the club and course.
With the computer in the bar not working over the weekend I had to put all the scores through. I can't believe how many of you add up incorrectly or don't look at where shots are received. Please take more care whilst marking score cards. There were 14 cards out of 56 that had the wrong points scores recorded on Saturday!!

We didn't have a game this week and probably a good job as I was struck down by some sort of bug. There are a few nasty ones about but if you have one can you please stay away from the shop!!

East Riding Golf Alliance
It was another great performance by Hornsea last Wednesday at Hainsworth Park. A fantastic score of 7 under by Steve Uzzell and Sam Middleton saw them pick up 2nd prize only losing out on the back 9. Our other pair of Andy Fox and Mark Cooke where going well but a poor finish saw them finish with a level par score. This though moves Hornsea into 3rd place overall, 2 shots off 2nd but 22 behind Scarborough North Cliff who really are going well this year. The next event isn't until the 28th January at Easingwold. Well it has been a busy week out on the course. Those that have played will have seen the work being done on the 7th and 8th and by the time this newsletter goes out I would think the outside contractors will have finished. I have tried to pop up as often as I could and have taken quite a few pictures that are on the twitter feed on the clubs website and also under the gallery. The work has gone well so far and the re turfing has already started in places.
Whilst all this work is going on Gareth and his team are still continuing with the daily jobs that need doing and the feedback I keep getting from most of the members and all of the visitors that we have at this time of year is very positive.
Our greens really are the best around by far and we are one of the few courses around that has not been closed.
Pitch marks are still a major problem though. Can you all, as has been mentioned before, try to repair at least one per green. If a pitch mark isn't repaired it really can cause a bad scar mark.
A pitchmark repaired within 10 minutes of being created will fully recover within three days. A poorly repaired pitchmark or one left for a day before being repaired will take over a week to heal.
On average the number of ball marks made on greens by a golfer per round is eight. Assuming only 130 rounds are played daily on our course, our greens receive 1040 impressions daily, 31,000 per month or more than 374,400 per year."

Sunday 14th December is the Clubs annual presentation. This year we are doing it a little different with all sections of the club coming together. Starting at 4pm trophies will be presented to the juniors section, ladies section, seniors section and then the gents section. You are all welcome to attend even if you have not won a trophy. It will be great to see the clubhouse full and to celebrate our winners from the past year.
