The course really is looking fantastic but as Gareth mentioned in his tweet we could really do with a bit of rain as everything is so dry.

Who would have thought we would have been saying that a few months ago! Even though the weather is nice it is still cold on a night and we are still having the occasional light frost which is slowing growth.

Working with a much-reduced staff they are doing a great job though of keeping on top of the main things that need doing.

Improve your putting with a 5p coin

Here is a quick putting drill you can try at home. All you need is a putter, a ball and a 5p coin. If you worked on this for a short time each day by the time we are back playing the hole will look like a bucket to you.

Who has been up here?

As mentioned in the video this is the picture taken by Steve Bowling from up on the mound to the left of the 11th tee. What a great hole it could be from here but due to the length, it would be a par 3! Now that would probably be the hardest par 3 you would ever play! I would love to know your thoughts.

Deer social distancing!

Deer on 16th

Whilst out on a walk earlier in the week Emma Hanson spotted these deer on the 16th hole. Good to see they are sticking to the social distancing rules!

Many congratulations to Tom and Jan Elder who will be Hornsea Golf Clubs Captains in 2021. They are both fantastic members of the club and I am sure they will do a great job.

Now here is the first challenge for you all now that toilet rolls are a little easier to get. I have seen quite a few people trying this online and I would love to see your attempts. You must all be better than me as I failed miserably!

Weekly challenge

We want to get as many Hornsea Golf Club golfers attempting this week’s challenge as possible! It’s a pretty straightforward one so give it a go and let us know how you get on. Who will be the champion?

What to do

Grab your wedge and a golf ball. Head to the garden or give yourself some space inside the house. Now, try to do as many keepy-ups as possible without the ball touching the ground.

Sounds easy, right?

Get adventurous

If you’re a bit of a show-off, try hitting the ball off your thigh or stopping the ball on your clubface before starting again. You can do this with tennis balls too, or even toilet rolls (apparently).

Golf at home

If any of you are missing golf as much as we are, you’ll be straight onto the course as soon as it’s safe to do so. Well, until that time comes, here’s a little drill for you to try that’ll keep those competitive juices flowing.

The set-up

We’ve used a mug as our makeshift hole, but feel free to use whatever you have lying about the house!

Set your balls down in a straight line from the hole, at one-foot intervals from each other. Starting with the closest, hole each putt without missing. If you miss, go back to the start and try again!

Too easy?

The simplest way to make this drill harder is to increase the distance between each of the balls in your line.

If you’re simply too good and are putting like Tiger, you could try finding a sloping putt or make the target (your makeshift hole) smaller.
