What a glorious week for golf - we hope you are all getting out on the course this week.  Don't forget to keep hydrated and please remember the sun cream and hats.

For those that haven't met our new member of staff yet, Matty Raybould is helping us out for the summer.  Matty has been a member for the last few years, however he now spends most of his time studying in America at Lenoir-Rhyne in North Carolina. His plan is to be back studying at some point this summer, once his College give him the all clear to return. Matty plays off scratch and has been a welcome asset to the club, playing in our Scratch team, in our winning Yorkshire team as well as previously playing for the E.R.U.G.C. and Y.U.G.C. Nathan played with Matty in the E.R.U.G.C. Junior team, they have been friends since being very young juniors and therefore he was the perfect candidate to help us out for the time being.

Club news

Saturday Tee Times

Due to the large demand for tee times on a Saturday we have for a trial period changed the tee time gap to 7 or 8 minutes, just on a Saturday for now. For those that have been members for some time you will know that historically we had 6 minute tee time gaps which is challenging particularly when a medal is being played but it did mean members could get tee times when required. Since the Covid-19 restrictions these of course changed to 10 minute gaps, and it's been a case of fastest finger on the booking system for the last few weeks. The social distance rules have now changed and as the 10 minute gaps have proved to be more than enough we have decided to trial the 7 and 8 minutes. These timings will be available from Saturday 4th July, so ready for this coming Saturday booking.  It will give us 2 more times per hour which should enable members to get a time on a Saturday. Please bear with us whilst we still have restrictions, we seem to be adhering to the regulations in place really well and hope that gradually we will return to normal or adapt to the new normal.

  • Thursday - Mid-week Stableford
  • Saturday - June Medal including Round 2 Centenary Gold Medal
  • Sunday - Hornsea Lions Trophy and Ladies Sunday Stableford

The entry sheet for this year's Jack Major Trophy, Norman Seaton Trophy and John Wood Chalices is now open, please contact the pro shop to add your name to the entry sheet. The entries will close on Thursday 9th July. This will be final closing this year as we have left it as late as possible to organise the time sheet. The draw will be organised on the Friday and added to the BRS time sheet and if we have any available times for other members on the Saturday they will be available to book as usual on Saturday 11th July.

Please be aware with the current timings extra times will be even more minimal than usual during the day, late afternoon is generally quiet though.

Wednesday - Seniors' Stableford - Age 55+:

1st - Paul Lockwood 43 points, 2nd - Berry Bedford 42 points and 3rd - Mike Guidry 38 points.

Thursday - Mid-week Stableford:

1st - Adam Watts 40 points, 2nd - Stewart Taylor 39 points and 3rd - Ash Dexter 39 points.

Callaway Demo Day - Tuesday 30th June 2020

We have managed to re-arrange the Callaway Demo Day to Tuesday 30th June, 10 to 4pm.  Unfortunately due to restrictions on this occasion the Demo Day will be appointment only and any roll ups will not be available. Our appointments are at the moment fully booked, however if you are interested please let us know and if an appointment becomes available we can advise.

The Demo Day will be taking place on the Practice Area behind the Pro Shop as we require the Shop facilities to maintain the hygiene regulations required. The Practice Area behind the Pro Shop will therefore be closed to general practice whilst the Demo Day is being held. The alternative Practice Area by the 18th tee, the putting green and the chipping area will remain open as usual.

As I write the newsletter on Tuesday we have just heard that social distancing rule changes and the re-opening of pubs and restaurants has been announced. Discussion has been ongoing with Directors and Hanson Hospitality over the last few weeks, with planning for this time firmly in our minds. Once we have our re-opening plans finalised we will advise members via email and next week's newsletter.
