Greetings from Stretton Wright
Hornsea Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Weather looks a little cold and breezy again for this weekend. Have you all got your lined sweaters and wind proof tops ready. If not I still have some left in stock. Really is a must piece of clothing for this time of year.

For those of you that love to follow golf why don't you have a go at this. Paul Lockwood has set up a private league for Hornsea Golf Club on the European Tour 'Fantasy Race to Dubai'. It runs in a similar way to fantasy football, where you can swap players in and out before weekly European Tour tournaments, or just pick ten and stick with them!

Members can go to www.europeantour.com and register for a fantasy team, pick their ten players for the season, and enter the Hornsea league by using the PIN 9252.

A little prize will be given to the winner at the end of 2015.

It was great on Sunday to see the 3 Anderson boy's playing in their first congu competition at the club. I had played earlier, conditions where tough, and for Harry to score 34pts what a great effort that was. I'm sure during this year they and quite a few of the other juniors will really come on. Please if you see them out playing give them some encouragement. We are still looking for a junior organiser. Surely one of our members can find a little bit of time to help?

I hope you are all keeping your eyes on the ever changing shop 'Sale Rail'. It gets changed quite often so make sure you don't miss out on a bargain. We still have quite a few discounted clubs in also. All worth looking at if you are thinking of changing.

No challenge this week but I did go out for a game at just after 11. Interesting 4 ball. I partnered Jamie Wright who was on leave from the army. He is currently serving in Cyprus. We played against Chris Waite and Ashley Fitchett. It was a great game with lots of banter. Chris who hadn't played for a good few months was his usual steady self, playing very well. Ashley hit some shots like a tour player but unfortunately for him these were usually followed by a lost ball or a duff!! Myself and Jamie fitted in really well and managed to take the money with a 3 and 2 win. We shall have to arrange a re match next time Jamie is home again.

Pitch marks. Yes I've got to mention them again. On Saturday most that played were asked to show that they had a pitch fork with them. I must say nearly everyone asked, did have one. It was also funny though as the average amount of pitch marks that everyone seems repairs is about 6 per green. I do wonder why though that we still have a problem? I walked on the 18th green at 2.25pm on Saturday and found this mark about 15 feet from the hole. It really isn't much to ask. Please repair your pitch marks. I also played on Sunday just after 11 o'clock and was still having to repair numerous marks on each green. If you want good greens please do your bit.

I also need to mention the ropes. If you choose to take a trolley or use a ride on buggy can you please not go over the ropes. They are put down for a reason. Can anyone using a ride on buggy please try to stay in the rough as much as possible please.

The greens staff are very busy at the moment. The 8th path near the tee is getting re edged on both sides. Looks very smart too. More turfing work has been done at the back of the 7th. Gareth has started to make an edge for the new bunkers using small pieces of turf. All the greens where hand cut on Monday and all surrounds cut Monday into Tuesday. Moles are becoming a bit of a problem with regular checks been made.

Our new chef Paul Nelson has now settled in to his kitchen and the opening winter kitchen hours are as follows, Monday to Friday 9.00am to 4.30pm, Saturday 8.30am to 5.00pm and Sunday 8.30am to 4.00pm. If you require anything out of these times please speak to Paul. The next event to be held at the club is 'Burns Night' which is on Saturday 24th January. Please book in the bar. This is always a great night.
