Gent's Over 50's Open AM AM

On Wednesday we held what would normally have been our last over 50's Open Am Am of the year, this year however it was our only one - strange times.

Thank you to the 33 teams that participated in the event on what was a lovely September day. The wind did pick up later in the day however temperatures were good all day.

Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, cards were not checked and processed on the day and therefore our usual scoreboard showing the results to all was not available, hopefully this will return next year. As I have checked the cards this morning we had a mix of scores throughout the day, with the team from Hainsworth Park out first setting a good score – not that we knew at the time. It was eventually a team from Cottingham Parks coming out on top in this year’s event, congratulations to them.

We are taking bookings for this event next year, with a few booked already, the date is Wednesday 8th September 2021. Many thanks to all competitors for their support of the event and Hornsea Golf Club.

This week's competitions

Today - Mid Week Stableford and the gents are playing at Springhead in the Hull & District Golfing Association event, a report will follow next week.

Saturday - Wiles Cup Qualfier & Betterball. For those pairings with handicaps of 16 or less, and aged over 18, the Wiles Cup is a knockout event organised by the Hull & District Golfing Association. 2 pairs from each club will qualify to play, knockout rounds take place throughout the coming winter season. Members with higher handicaps can still play in the competition on Saturday, they just won't be eligible for the Wiles Cup.

Best Gross

Last Saturday; the 5th September saw the final round of this year's Centenary Gold Medals. It has been a very short season with the fixtures all being re-arranged so well done to all that have participated.

Best Nett

Congratulations to all the winners in both the gross and nett standings. A special mention to Steve Teal who was first in both gross and nett in Division 2 just a shame you can't win both allowing Mark Cooke to step up as nett winner.

Captains Weekend time sheets are filling up fast. Don't forget to let us know your betterball pairings for the Sunday by Wednesday 23rd September so we can draw for the Captain and Vice Captains teams.

Yorkshire Challenge

Last week saw a fantastic open event held across 3 days at Moortown, Lindrick and Ganton. Mark Cooke and Sam Middleton came a fantastic 3rd place in the overall event.

That wasn't the best of it as they managed to win the Moortown series and also the final round at Ganton, this included a fantastic eagle 2 on the 17th for Mark. I'm sure he won't be talking about it too much! Well played guys.

Winter Alliances

Back in Action

The Hull and District alliance is back today and being played at Springhead Park so lets hope to see some good scores from the players.

Last time out at Withernsea Jack Maxey and Paul Duckworth as well as Malcolm Train and Chris Wilson produced 66. This has left us tied 5th position but only 3 shots of the lead held by Hessle.

Next Wednesday sees the start of the East Riding alliances as well so keep an eye out for them results as well.
