We hope you're well. So much to mention this last week, I hope I haven't forgotten anything - if I have please give me a gentle reminder!

Last weekend was our re-arranged Captain's Weekend. Usually a busy weekend in July, we had to adapt plans to suit the current situation. On Saturday, we held our usual individual medal with prizes for each section of the club. As I arrived at the club at 6.45am, Ross was ready in his Captain's Blazer to meet all the competitors for the day. It certainly felt like a winters day! Once he had got through two double shot coffees in an attempt to keep warm, he moved onto singles! As players left their scorecards in the comp box, it was looking like a tough day out on the course.

Sunday is a more fun day - with the addition of another competition - the 'Tin Mug' which is our Captain v Vice-Captain match usually played on Ryder Cup Sunday. Members played in a betterball Stableford and following a heads or tails draw on the previous Wednesday determining whether the pairings score counted for the Captain or Vice-Captain. Ross didn't play as he was busy up at the Halfway House greeting everyone and teeing off from the 10th tee. However, our Vice Captain; Tom Elder did play and his opponents were the formidable Junior pairing of Alfie Anderson and Seth Topham. I'm sure they impressed Tom with their winning score. Alfie did say Seth had played brilliantly. Looking at the scoring Alfie and Seth had an excellent weekend.

A big thank you to all the participants on the weekend, your donations raised the sum of £1596.36 towards the Captain's charity. Thanks to Ross for organising the weekend and the pin positions! Thanks to the Greens staff; I think we can all agree that the course has been fantastic since we returned to golf. Thanks to Emma, Jonny, Claire and Ann for the catering provided over the course of the weekend. And to Nathan for processing all the scoring for both days.

| And finally the Juniors |

| Saturday's Results | As this has been Ross' only event for the year, he laid on some very special prizes of which I am sure all the winners, particularly Tom will be very happy with. Such a shame for Ross having missed out on so much of his year, hopefully in a few years time when his work commitments allow he will once again be Club Captain. |
| Sunday's Results | The winner of the 'Tin Mug' this year was the Vice Captain, well done to all the team for scoring 954 points v the Captains team scores of 927. Let's hope next year we can organise this match in the usual circumstances. |
| Rees on 15th | Special congratulations to Rees Brown for 2 2's on Saturday, one of them being on the 15th with a holed shot with a 4-iron! |

On a very wet and windy Friday, the Hornsea Rugby Club held their annual fundraising event at the club. Normally played in May as a shotgun event, we obviously had to make some changes. The event was very well supported with 20 teams playing and 2 taking the decision not to play but still support the Rugby Club by paying for their entry anyway. The grand sum raised in the end was £1810! A fantastic amount of money that I am sure will benefit the club massively. As always, events like these can't take place without the help of volunteers; Paul Sharp and Gareth Laycock organising the teams, Steve Crook rallying sponsors and generally keeping everyone up to date with all club information, Nick O'Mahony on the desk we also had Andy Finch and Matthew Jenkinson in the Halfway House. Hopefully, I haven't missed anyone, apologies if I have.

On Saturday, 10 October, the competition of the day will be the Stretton Wright Champion of Champions Trophy. This trophy was very kindly donated last year by David Blanchard who was Captain at the time. It was presented in recognition of the 20 years that Stret had been the PGA Pro at Hornsea. Following the loss of Stret in May, this trophy now holds an even greater significance. To qualify for this event, you need to have won a trophy or a monthly medal. The list of winners so far is as pictured - still the opportunity for 3 more places from the winners of each division in the Autumn Medal this coming Saturday. For those who haven't qualified, there will still be an individual Stableford available to enter - and ladies your trophy date is Tuesday, 3 November. |

Last Wednesday saw the first East Riding Alliance of the season played at Scarborough South Cliff in horrendous conditions. These conditions proved to be of a little problem for Jack Maxey and Nathan Wright who scored a superb 11 under par, 61. Jack made 7 birdies in the first 10 holes then roles were reversed on the last 8 with Nathan making 4 birdies. They were backed up by Paul Lockwood Snr and Malcolm Train with a score of 69 to give us the early lead in the league table by 3 shots from Driffield. Excellent playing for the team moving into the next one next week to be played at Brough.

On Sunday and Monday, a small group of our ladies went to Kenwick Park for the Lady Captain's away trip. Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, this was a much smaller group than usual - however, this didn't stop them having a great trip even though it had to be lights out at 10pm! Well done Ladies. Again, Sally Bird as Lady Captain has had a challenging year, she will be taking the reigns again in 2022.

The final draw of the year took place this week with Mick Cadmore selecting this month's winners. Congratulations to George Young, Matt Davis and Jan Elder on being this month's winners. New draw tickets will now be available to purchase for the coming year. Please see a Director or Captain - or don't worry I am sure they will find you! Don't forget the draw is done every month with 1st place receiving £50, 2nd £25 and 3rd £15. Many thanks to Darrell Slingsby for organising the draw, this brings in around £900 to the club every year which is greatly appreciated. |
Finding the right putter throws up a lot of questions: Putter length? Toe hang or face-balanced? And, of course, blade or mallet? As you’ll see on Tour, everybody has their own preference. But let’s put that final question under the microscope for a second. |
| Scotty Cameron Special Select putters |
|
Scotty Cameron's fantastic new range of Special Select putters consists of various head shapes and sizes, including the popular models above. The Newport blade and Flowback 5.5 mallet are both designed with 303 stainless steel for perfect feel on impact, helping you to putt with more consistency every round. |
The decision of whether you opt for a blade or a mallet comes down to your individual preference, as well as which suits your stroke better. For example, if you have an arcing stroke you might find a blade putter works better for you. The best way to find out is to come and see us for a check-up and we'll be happy to help. |
