Message from The Board of Directors
For anyone that didn't receive the email from our Chair, Keith this week please see below; First of all can I wish all members of Hornsea Golf Club a Happy, Prosperous, and importantly a SAFE and Healthy 2021. Once again we find ourselves in an Official Lockdown which unfortunately means we cannot play golf or socialise as we would want to. I will not dwell on the situation because it is familiar to you all. I would only like to emphasise that the main objective of the Board of Directors and everyone associated with the operation of The Club remains that we are sustained in a position whereby when permission to play is given we can do so immediately!! I would like to reassure everyone that all our focus has been in mitigating the damage that closure brings to an absolute minimum and that the future of the club is assured – and wherever possible improved. Can I reassure everyone that all measures to reduce fixed costs and expenditure during the closure have been implemented and we are actively pursuing additional cost saving measures whilst also trying to claim any financial assistance we may be entitled to. Thankfully, not everything is doom and gloom! Some members will be aware that during the recent restrictions, which meant the Clubhouse had to close, we have taken the opportunity to do a complete decoration of the Lounge and Dining Room areas. This phase is nearing completion and the next phase which involves redecorating the Rolston Bar is about to start. The final phase which involves the main staircase enclosure will then be implemented. I should emphasise that all of this has been made possible through the generosity of Tony Close who has undertaken the work on a labour only basis with materials sponsored by Dulux Paints. We are extremely grateful to Tony and his workforce for the work they have done – it has certainly made a difference to the Clubhouse which, it has to be said, was appearing very dated and tired. The lighting systems in the Lounge and Dining Room have also been upgraded to Low Energy dimmable ceiling lighting which again has made a tremendous difference. We gave careful consideration to this project before we agreed to it going ahead and we are confident that all members will benefit from socialising in far more pleasant surroundings and it will also significantly improve our chances of attracting additional revenue through weddings etc. On the course you will all be aware that the 16th tee project has been completed and the general feedback is it has made a big difference to the area. Everyone will also be relieved to hear that we have at last taken delivery of some bunker sand and the 17th is now back in play. During the current lockdown Gareth, our Course Director, is hoping to carry out additional work to some of the bunkers on the course. You will have seen that whilst it appears that there is little activity at the Club during these troubled times we are in fact keeping extremely busy trying to ensure that the Club continues to improve and is as good as we can make it. I would like to say at this point that Members have a significant part to play in this process because without your cooperation and understanding it would be impossible for us to function. Accordingly, the Board would ask that members adhere to the restrictions that are placed upon them in these extraordinary circumstances. Whilst we all miss our golf you can be assured that we will come out of this stronger and better, but that will only be possible by ALL members being understanding and sticking to the rules that are put in place. Can I also remind everyone that if you need any help during the current crisis please do not hesitate to contact any of the Board of Directors. We fully understand that everyone’s personal circumstances are different and if we can be of assistance in any way we would be happy to oblige whilst ensuring complete discretion. In closing I would like to say thank you to you all for being at Hornsea Golf Club and stay safe and healthy in 2021. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further information. Best Wishes, Keith Marshall – on behalf of the Board of Directors. |
