Good afternoon. I hope you have all recovered from a week with no golf and all of your courses are now open. The members here at Hornsea are quite lucky as it's not often we are closed. I hope I've not put something there I might regret!
On Tuesday Paul Gibson and I went across to Rudding Park to see the launch of the new Callaway range for 2015. Very interesting. They have some great things out this year and my demo stock and stock for the shop will be arriving shortly. Well worth a look as all the clubs really do perform very well.
Quick update for you all on my weight loss. So far I have lost 9 lbs. I'm getting nearer to been able to shave this horrible beard off but not until I have lost a stone. I have started drinking an interesting concoction for my breakfast though. It doesn't look nice but trust me it tastes great, you should try it. 50g of spinach, a celery stick, an apple, juice of an orange, juice of a lime and a tablespoon of fresh grated ginger. All blended together.
I was quite surprised by the comments from members that played over last weekend saying that the course was quite dry considering all the snow and rain we have just had. It's a long time since the course has been closed for any length of time. I went out for a walk last Thursday and I couldn't believe how wet it was. (pic of 3rd and 4th) After speaking to Gareth he told me that we had had just over 1 ½ inches of rain and snowmelt in 3 days. That didn't really mean a lot to me but I thought the following, which I found on the internet, might give you all some sort of an idea just how much water that is.
1 acre covered in 1 inch of water = 27,154.2876 gallons
1 acre covered in 1 inch of water = 113.3053382 tons
That's 1 inch. We had 1 ½ inches!!
Hornsea Golf Course I believe, from what I have been told, covers roughly 150 acres so that's a lot of water!!

KNOCKOUT COMPETITIONS

HULL & DISTRICT GOLFING ASSOCIATION
Nothing to report as last week's event at Hainsworth Park was postponed until today. CLICK HERE to see the team for next week at Hessle.
EAST RIDING GOLF ALLIANCE
Again due to the weather yesterday event at York has been put back until next week due to frozen conditions.
GREENS
Those that have played will have noticed that quite a few of the Leylandii trees on the 12th are now down. (pic of 12th trees) There are still quite a few to go though. All the 150 yard posts and tee markers have been re painted. The path on the 10th is now edged and waiting for red shale to finish it off. That will be done in the spring. (pic of 10th path) The white beams on the 16th have had a bit of trimming done to remove the lower branches. Hopefully if the weather stays dry work should be able to start on lining the bunkers on the 8th and getting the turf down. The weather really has been against the turfing work recently. Considering the amount of rain that I mentioned early we are lucky to be playing on a course that is in such good condition for the time of year when many courses near us are closed or playing on temporary greens.
SENIORS SECTION
The first game of the season is nearly upon us. It would be great to see some new faces joining the seniors this year. Please keep an eye on the Seniors notice board in the clubhouse for all details of upcoming matches and events.
