PROFESSIONAL SHOP

On Monday, Nathan and I went to the main Callaway fitting centre in Chessington, just south of London. It's been quite a while since I have had a full fitting and it was well worth the trip. Big thanks to Mike Clark for sorting the booking and Jason Skea for looking after us both on the day. Jason has fitted all of Callaways top Tour Professionals and he really does know his stuff. If any of you would like to go down to Chessington for a fitting, please have a word with me. They are booked up though for roughly 3 months. A full fitting takes 1 ½ hours to complete and It really is worth the trip. I have included a couple of pictures of Nathan and myself and also my driver stats which for some of you might be interesting.

We are holding a Callaway demo day here on Tuesday 21st April from 10 o'clock until 2 o'clock.

Good to see that so many of you are checking your grips. We have done lots of re gripping recently and some of the grips that have come in, I really do wonder how you could hold on to them!! If you are not sure if your clubs need re gripping please bring them into the shop and we can check them for you.

Paul Gibson was away last weekend so I did the junior lesson. It was great to be back out with the kids again. We really do have some up and coming stars in the making. The club really does need a junior organiser though. Despite asking before, nobody has come forward. Please if you fancy doing it or know someone that might do it please can you come and speak to me. They are the future of the golf club.

FANTASY GOLF

Well I'm trying hard but Jon Mitchell is still the man to catch in the European Tour Fantasy League. I'm starting to think he has some inside information!! Long way to go though. The current Hornsea Golf Club positions for the top 17 after last week's Joburg Open are, CLICK HERE to view the latest standings.

HULL & DISTRICT OPEN MEETINGS

Can all gents' members please note that the entry forms for the Saturday Open Meetings for April and May will be going up before this Friday. We are doing it a little different this year, you will be able to put your name against the time available. This will save us the problem of more than three people putting names down for the same time. It will also mean that if you have your name against that time you will be playing. The first event is the 1st, 2nd,3rd Division Open at Cottingham Parks on Saturday 18th April.

HULL & DISTRICT GOLFING ASSOCIATION

In very tough conditions the Hornsea pair of Luke Robinson and Sam Middleton kept Hornsea's chances of winning the Victor Hurdle Cup alive. It was a horrible day at Hessle last Thursday with heavy rain falling until about 11 o'clock and then saturated ground and strong winds made conditions really difficult for all golfers. Luke and Sam played the first 6 holes in the rain and their score of 68 was a great effort beating Hornsea's next best by 2 shots. It wasn't good enough to win though as a Hull pairing managed a 66 and a Hessle pair a 67. This now leaves Hornsea 5 clear in the Victor Hurdle with 2 events remaining. Current standings are, 1st Hornsea 516, 2nd Cave Castle 521, 3rd Hessle 523, 4th Hainsworth Park & Hull 527, 6th Beverley 533, 7th Ganstead & Withernsea 537, 9th Springhead 545, 10th Sutton 572.

WILES CUP

Unfortunately the Wiles Cup will not be coming back to Hornsea this year. Our pairing of Philip Horton and Michael Hinkins lost in the semi-final last Saturday 3&2. This was a brave effort though as whilst playing the 3rd at Hainsworth Park, Michael was struck on the elbow, on the full, by a golf ball and was in pain for the rest of the round. Great effort though boys. Better luck next year. It's a while away but the qualifying round here this year will be played on Saturday 12th September.

EAST RIDING GOLF ALLIANCE

With just one more alliance remaining to determine the destination of this season's Hull Daily Mail Championship Bowl it would seemed that the race is almost run with Scarborough North Cliff after having another good day at Beverley establishing an unassailable lead of twenty one shots over Hornsea with Hessle a further five shots back in third. Bridlington (Belvedere) host the next event on Wednesday, 11th March.

Hull Daily Mail Championship Bowl -leading positions following Beverley Alliance:- Scarborough North Cliff 1186, Hornsea 1207, Hessle 1212, Hull 1213, Filey & Heworth 1215, Selby & Malton and Norton 1229, Fulford 1232, Kirkbymoorside 1234, York 1235, Bridlington 1241, Ganton & Beverley 1246, Driffield 1247, Pike Hills 1252.

HULL & DISTRICT LWGA

The latest ladies alliance was held at Beverley Golf Club on Monday 2nd March. Hornsea's best pairing was our Lady Captain Wendy Lockwood and her partner Patsy Yeates. They finished in 5th position.

GREENS

Good to see a bit of grass been cut this week. The rough has had a trim, fairways have been edged, tee's cut and greens hand cut. Spring can't be far away!! Quite a bit of maintenance has been carried out on equipment too so it is all ready for the season.

As I walked onto the 18th green to take the picture of Dave hand cutting the 18th I must say I was disappointed to see yet again so many pitch marks. This picture shows 4 in a two yard square. Please when you are playing try to repair at least one per green and look after your course. Some have you might have noticed the wet area at the start of the 6th fairway. We are aware of this and the plan is to put some more drains through this area when we get chance. Possibly next week. A few people seem a little confused about the bunkers on the 7th and 8th. Sand has been put in the bunkers but they are still ground under repair, play prohibited. This will remain the case until the beginning of April. This is to give the sand chance to settle and the turf around them to take and establish. Please if you do go in one of the bunkers, if you have one, retrieve it with a ball scoop so as to keep off the newly turfed areas as much as possible.

CLUBHOUSE

It was good to see a few teams at the quiz night last Thursday. The night was won by a team of two. Gareth Williams and Ashley Fitchett. They know their stuff when it comes to films, pictures and music!! It would be nice to see a few more teams next month testing your knowledge. Not many attended the Bistro Night on Saturday night but those that did definitely had a good time enjoying good food, good company and the odd drink or two. It would be nice to see more people supporting the social functions as they are always a good night.

EXCEL

Do I have anyone that reads this newsletter that really understands the Excel software? I am trying to sort out a scoring system and I really need some help as the season is nearly upon us. Nathan did a great job last year but I think it can be improved. Please if you can help, email me or ring the shop. Can I thank Mel Marshall for his efforts so far.
