We put the new score cards out on Saturday and feedback was very good. They are quite a bit bigger than the last score cards so they should be easier for everyone. It makes life a little easier for me too as I don't have that extra piece of card to tear off every time. One of the reasons for the change is because the course was re-measured recently and quite a few of the holes were incorrect. The yardage on the cards is now correct. If you look at the yardage on the tee posts at the moment these don't match. We have some new posts coming which will match all the other signage and these should be with us in the next few weeks. They will be like the one shown here.
Many congratulations to Malcolm Train who had a hole in one at Hornsea on Saturday. Playing the 7th hole from what I was told by Paul Lockwood jnr, he scuffed a 5 iron that somehow managed to find its way into the hole. I'm sure Malcolm will have a different view on it though!!! I've found an old picture of Malc from about the time he got his first hole in one!!!!! Sorry Malc. Couldn't resist!!
Please if the computer is not working when you try to enter your scores in the clubhouse can you let us know in the shop as soon as possible. It is usually something quite simple but if left for too long it means we have to enter all the scores. Quick thanks to Norman Broxham and Ian Sizer who did tell me this Saturday when there was a problem.
We had a visiting party play here last Friday and with them was a gentleman just walking round. He had one of the latest drone cameras. I would have loved to have seen what pictures/videos he managed to get but I missed him. Have any of our members invested in one? If so can you please contact me as it would be great to get some aerial pictures of the course.
On Monday night I attended the gents East Riding Alliance AGM. It was quite a sad affair as having spent 23 years as the competition secretary John Nicholson has stood down. In all those years his wife Judy has been a great help giving all the cards out and collecting the money etc. I'm sure they will be a hard act to follow but many thanks for all your hard work.
At last, I have been sent something form a member whilst away that I can use in the newsletter. Steve Robinson spotted this whilst away in Lanzarote. Now does Manny Gray really spend his winters in Tenerife or has he a secret business???
I have not had chance to speak to him yet but one of our members has had an accident whilst away on holiday. Can I and all our staff wish Tony Barnsley a speedy recovery and we hope to see you back up at the golf club shortly.

TUESDAY CLUB
Not a great turn out this week as I think the weather must have kept a few away. In the end it wasn't that bad though. A fantastic score of 43pts from Bill Railton won this week with George Mason coming in 2nd with 40. I wonder how many of you wish you had played now?

Well just to let all members know that here at Hornsea we have a great section with the Seniors. I never thought after going away on holiday to the other side of the world to turn up for my first match to be informed by Malcolm Hester our secretary that I was 'now in the chair'. When I inquired as to why, he informed that our astute leader had gone and fallen down some stairs and damaged his shoulder. Now in my book, if you don't want to do a job you either don't volunteer or tell everybody it's not for me, it's a bit drastic to resort to Base Jumping at your age Tom. Seriously though we all wish Tom Farebrother a speedy recovery. Having said that I now find that our President Tony Barnsley has had a terrible accident whilst on holiday. I spoke to Tony yesterday and he did look to be suffering. Take care Tony and look forward to your return.
Now for the match report. Well after the start to the season, where we lost our first three matches, the ship was steadied and we followed that with 3 straight wins, 1 defeat and 2 more wins. I must point out what a civilised lot we are as when we have our after match gatherings, we refer to our results as Honourable Draws in favour of whoever never 'We beat your lot'. We have a nucleus of regular players who I would like to thank for their time and efforts so far. They are a credit to the club. On that note may I say to all you seniors at the club, those of you 55+ join our merry band and you will have a great day out. Team selection sheets are on our board in the locker room so put pen to paper and put your name forward for a match. Often people that don't play golf will say what do we find interesting in walking round a field hitting a ball. My answer is after spending 4 hours in many cases with a total stranger, you discuss all sorts of topics and end up being good friends. What more could you ask for, I haven't quite got round to asking for inside leg measurements yet. On that happy note, I bid you good-day and whatever else, enjoy your game and remember your next shot is always your first.
Regards,
Gordon McGlynn
Seniors Vice Captain
It's been another busy week on the course this week. Greens cut daily, rough cut, surrounds and tees cut, holes changed and bunkers have had a flymo, then edged and raked. Matting were showing has been cut away or buried. On Tuesday Ray gave Colin Evans and Peter Bridges a hand at the compressor area to make a pit. This area will be much improved on how it was and a big thanks to all involved in the project. Can I just give a special mention to Andrew Giles who managed to get us the grid for the top of the pit. If anyone was wondering, the small wooden box on top of the compressor unit contains some goggles. Can we recommend using these and then please put them back. Thanks go again to Colin for making the box.
Whilst golfing this summer if you are using a trolley can you try to avoid walking between bunkers and the green. Many people at the moment are doing so. Also if you see anyone doing so can you please politely ask them to walk around the outside.
