Greetings from Stretton Wright
Hornsea Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

It has taken me a while to sort and I still have quite a bit more to add but the Hornsea Golf Club 'App' is ready to launch. Do not search for it on the App store though. Please follow the link.

http://www.eagleuk.com/applink/hornsea.html

On the app you will find all sorts of things to hopefully make being a member of Hornsea Golf Club easier. Booking tee times, fixtures, the club website and much more can all be found in one place. This app is not just for using on a smart phone or tablet but can be used on any computer. Put into your web browser:

The log in 'member' number access code is 1234.
Please fill in your profile details to access all the information.

Well it will be an early start for the three that are playing 100 holes tomorrow. They are starting at 4 o'clock tomorrow morning. If you have not sponsored them yet please do so by logging onto the just giving page or we are taking donations in the shop. If you are able to support them please come down to the club at any time and we shall try and let you know where they are. I shall be up early to take pictures as they set off. Good luck Leigh Gawley, Joe Palmer and Chris Wilson. I'm sure you will do it even if I think you are all crazy!! http://www.justgiving.com/teams/Hornsea100

Funny story from last Saturday. Kev Taylor (below) becomes the latest member to pay a visit to the 11th pond and I don't mean just his ball. He was quite close to the pond with his electric trolley and clubs when he accidently hit the start button on his trolley. As he took a grab for them his trolley dragged him in head first!! I did try not to laugh when he told me whilst stood in borrowed clothes!!!!!

Not sure if you have noticed but we have had a delivery of gents Callaway clothing this week which is all very nice. Some really great colours.

Now I know we get spoilt at Hornsea with great greens for most of the year. This is a close up picture that Ian Poulter took at the US Open this weekend. It really does show how bad they were and what they were complaining about!!

PRO AM

Last Friday saw Hornsea Golf Club hold the annual Yorkshire PGA Pro Am. Teams consist of one PGA Professional and 3 amateurs with individual Pro prizes and team prizes available. The best Pros score was a 69 by Fraser Kelly from Scarborough North Cliff and the best team was John Harrison Agencies. A big thanks goes to Jimmy Pape and his team from the Yorkshire PGA for helping out on the day. This really is a great event and gives everyone a chance to play with a Professional. It would be nice to see a few more local entries next year and if you don't know a Professional we can find one for you. I played quite nicely for 14 holes and was stood on the 15th tee at level par. Unfortunately though I didn't have the best finish 5,5,4,7 which left me just outside the prizes and in quite a bad mood!!!! I can't tell you the last time I played the last 4 holes so badly. I must admit though that the 7 was due to how I'd played the 3 previous holes!!!! And I'm forever telling people to enjoy it and take one shot at a time!!!! I shall keep trying to beat this game though!!!!

TUESDAY CLUB

Bit of a family affair this week with Willem Smith taking first place with a fantastic score of 44pts. His grandad Alan came in 2nd with 42pts. Both great scores. Alan also won the nearest the pin on the 18th.

HORNSEA SCORPIONS

On Sunday July 26th there is an exchange with Scarborough North Cliff. The cost is only £26 and includes 27 holes of golf, food and prizes. Please click here to see the poster for more details.

GREENS

Well the weather yet again hasn't been the best but grass is still growing and continues needing to be cut. Whilst I was out putting the nearest the pins etc out for the Pro Am I came across Terry Cutts busy raking and removing any matting that was showing. It isn't just covered over like a lot of people seem to think.

YORKSHIRE SENIORS

This is a bit of a last minute addition and I don't have any real details but many congratulation to Phil Cross who came 2nd yesterday in the Yorkshire Union of Golf Clubs Seniors Amateur Championship which was held at Knaresborough Golf Club. In the 36 hole event he had two great rounds of 75 and 74 for a total of 149. This was only one short of Stephen East from Moortown who won the event with scores of 74, 74. Well done Phil. Seniors tour next for you??

KNOWING THE RULES

More on the Provisional Ball

Last week we gave some tips on hitting 'provisional balls'.

So, here's a situation to consider...

In a match, on a Par Three hole, Jane hits her tee shot into the trees and announces that she is going to play a provisional ball, which she then manages to hole.

As a result, she decides she does not want to look for her original ball, however her opponent starts searching for it. What is the ruling from the choices below?

A - The provisional ball became the ball in play as soon as Jane holed it from the tee.

B - The provisional ball becomes the ball in play as soon as Jane picks it out of the hole, provided the original ball has not already been found in bounds within five minutes of her opponent starting to search for it.

C - The provisional ball becomes the ball in play only if Jane's opponent does not find her original ball in bounds within five minutes of starting to search for the original ball, irrespective of whether Jane has picked her ball out of the hole.

The answer can be found later in this newsletter.

Answer to the 'lost and provisional ball' question...

Answer - B, The provisional ball becomes the ball in play as soon as Jane picks it out of the hole, provided the original ball has not already been found in bounds within five minutes of her opponent starting to search for it.

Authority reference -
Decision 27-2b/2
(This conjured up a picture in my mind of Jane making a dash to the green as her opponent disappears in to the trees to search!!)
