I can't quite believe the football season is just about to start again. I wonder if our local team Hull City can have a better season and maybe make it back up again. I shall be spending the season again wondering why I still support Spurs!! It's a good few years now that I had anything to shout about. For those of you that are Leeds fans you should check out the Callaway shirts that are in stock. A must for any true Leeds fan!!
It's good to see that people are slowly booking up for the Captains away day to Selby on Thursday 3rd September. There are still 20 places left though.
The sheet goes up this Friday for the Filey exchange. This is on Sunday 13th September and can you please book in pairs. If you would like to go on a bus please put that down also. The Filey trip is always very popular so please book early to avoid being disappointed. Both sheets are opposite the shop.
Nathan who I mentioned a few weeks ago has now turned 18 and I took him to Beverley on Tuesday to play in his last East Riding Junior match that he is eligible to play in. How time flies. A few of you might have noticed him in the shop a little more. He is doing a few hours in the shop to help us out whilst he decides what he wants to do next.
Yet again I have to mention pitch marks. I had a number of complaints again this weekend from people saying how can the group in front have missed them. Can you all please take care of your course and make sure you repair at least one pitch mark per green.
Here is a quick reminder of which hole you should be really looking after but this does not mean you neglect the others. Click here to see.

GREENS
Course maintenance starts on Monday. The plan was to spray with rescue as was done before to remove all the bad grasses but unfortunately it has been too windy so this will now be done at a later date. Weather permitting the plan is to top dress the greens then hollow core. A drag mat will then be used to break all the cores down. Any fibrous material will then be removed. A disk seeder will then be used at a depth of roughly 10 mm with a fescue seed. A light top dressing will then follow if needed. Irrigation will be on and everything will be fertilised to help the recovery. The surrounds will also be hollow cored. Please bear with us whilst this essential work is been done. If the weather is with us it should soon recover.
PRESIDENTS CUP RESULT
There was a great entry for the Seniors Presidents Cup that was played last Wednesday with 17 players taking part. The cup was won by Malcolm Hester with a great score of 37pts. Colin Evans came 2nd with 34pts on the last 6 holes.
The Seniors latest game against Scarborough North Cliff resulted in a great win for Hornsea 6 games to 2.
The Seniors are again making great efforts to improve things at Hornsea. Led by Colin Evans and his team of helpers the hut near the 5th tee which has looked un-slightly for a while is going to have a makeover. Work is planned to start on Monday with all the tin been stripped off and replaced with wood. Above is a picture of how it looks at the moment.
CANDLELIGHTERS AND MCMILLAN NURSES AM AM
Last Friday saw Hornsea Golf Club host an Am Am in aid of Candlelighters and McMillan Nurses. The event was organised by Adrian Milner and what a great effort he made. In total just under £4,000 was raised. Many thanks to all the sponsors and to all that played on the day. Here are a few pictures from the day.
