Whilst the course was quiet last week Yvonne and I took advantage and managed to get away to Liverpool for a couple of days with Nathan and Natasha. The girls decided to go shopping so that gave Nathan and I the chance to go for a game of golf.
We played at Royal Liverpool, Hoylake, where last year's Open was played. Now that is one tough golf course, and you must hit it straight and avoid all the small pot bunkers and very long grass on every hole!! I had managed to do that for the first 13 holes but then the course defiantly won!!!
What a wonderful place Liverpool is though and if you have not been I would highly recommend a visit.
Many congratulations to Dave Whitton who, after 47 years of trying, managed to get a hole in one last week on our 12th hole.
That's even longer than it took me!!
He managed to achieve this using a 9 iron.
Well done Dave.
Can all players that are going on the Captains away day to Selby on Thursday, 3 September and those going to Filey on Sunday, 13 September please pay as soon as possible in the Professional shop. We do not want to be collecting money on the day. There are still some places left on both days. If you have never been before I'm sure you would enjoy it.
Club AGM
Don't forget that tonight, Thursday 20th is the club AGM and members meeting. It starts at 7.30pm and it would be good to see a few more people attend than normal.
Nominations for Directors are now finalised and a vote will take place on the evening.

East Riding Match Play Success
Many congratulations to Leigh Gawley who has made it through to the East Riding Match play final. Leigh played against Rees Brown in the semi-final at Driffield, and after a close fought game Leigh won on the last. The final is to be played on Tuesday, 25 August at Ganton Golf Club were Leigh will face Ben Borman from Cottingham.
If you fancy going up to watch you can.
Good luck in the final Leigh.

Do any of you have any old electric trolley batteries in your sheds or garages?
If so please bring them down to the shop as I can now get them recycled. Any money I get from them I shall put in credit for the juniors.
Please put them just inside the door of the trolley shed if you do have any, or drop them in the shop.
Can I give a big thanks to Andy Reed and East Coast Construction for removing and landscaping the area on the 12th last Saturday and Sunday. Andy did all the work for nothing. Sorry if it caused any disruption to your games on Saturday, but I'm sure you all agree the area looks much better now. Gareth now plans to seed it and plant some gorse.
Course Maintenance Report - August 2015
Click here to view our Course Directors report on the maintenance taking place on our course here at Hornsea.
I popped out last Friday to see how the greens maintenance was going and bumped into Paul doing one of his summer camps.
They all looked like they were having great fun playing snakes and ladders in a golf format.
If you have any children or grandchildren that might be interested in doing this please have a word in the shop, or click here to get in touch.

Paul Gibson - PGA Teaching Professional
As you may know, for the last couple of months I have been doing some group lessons at Withernsea Golf Club and last week I had the pleasure of playing with the Captain,
Ian Winter at Rudding Park in the Captain/Pro betterball competition. We had a slow start and reached the turn -1, but then a bit of a blitz on the back 9 got us to a very respectable -6. This proved to be 4 shots behind the leaders and 2 off the prizes. We had a great day and I must extend my thanks to Ian for inviting me along.
I am finding hard to write this next piece as it reminds me that summer is slowly on its way out. Next Wednesday, which is the 26th August is the start of another set of After Work Club sessions, the sad part of this is that I can only fit four sessions in due to the nights drawing in. The After Work Club has been a huge sucess for me this year and if you havent managed to get to one, then I strongly recommend you try to make one of these. I have picked, what I think, are the most popular sessions from throughout the summer and I do hope you can make it to one or all of them
Change of date Due to a scheduling conflict I have had to change a date for my Monday morning group sessions. Originally there was a back to basics session planned for 24th August, this has now been put back to the 31st August.
