WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

On Monday Yvonne and I celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary. My mum gave me this photo which was taken on the putting green at Hornsea. If you look carefully it is amazing how much the trees have grown in the background.

HULL & DISTRICT ASSOCIATION

Last Thursday saw the start of the gent's winter alliances and what a start for Hornsea it was too. Withernsea hosted the first event and one of the first pairs out on the course was Adrian Rosindale and Lee Nicholson. They both played their part in a fantastic score of 63 which led all day and finished winning by 2 clear shots. Hornsea also took joint 2nd with a 65 from Stuart Branton and Mark Cooke. Let's hope this form continues all season. The next event is on the 17th at Springhead.

They are now through to the finals which will be played at the Marriott Forest of Arden Hotel and Country Club from Sunday 18th October to Tuesday 20th October. It would be nice if we could maybe get a few to go and support them. The first round of competition starts at 8am on the 19th. Good luck boys.

CAPTAINS CHALLENGE

This Sunday saw us take up the challenge of David Schofield and Len Fitchett. What a great game it was too with a little gentle banter on the way!! Even though they both tried hard, Dave even playing a shot back handed, our unbeaten record remains intact after we beat them 3&2. We also won the front 9 and back 9 and had 5 bits. Can I thank them both for not only been great company but for also making a generous donation to the charity.

TUESDAY CLUB

Another sign that summer is nearly over is that the Tuesday Club season is nearly at an end. The last week to count is Tuesday 22nd September. As of the 1st September this was the leader board so all is to play for in the coming weeks especially as Pat Slaven last Tuesday had a great score of 44pts which won the evening by 7 clear shots!! Best score this week was 37 points from Chris Faure who beat the man on form this season Bill Railton and Dave Laughton came 3rd all on countback.

ROLSTON BAR TROPHY

Players who have carded 8 rounds or more in this year's Tuesday Club are eligible to play in the Rolston Bar Trophy which is played in conjunction with the Mid Week Stableford on Thursday 24th September. A presentation will follow this event. Tee times are available between 1pm and 2pm.

CAPTAINS AWAY DAY

Last Thursday saw 28 of us go to Selby for the Captains away day. What a great day we all had too as we were all looked after very well and the course was in fantastic condition. We played a better ball Stableford off full handicap and the scoring was very good. Tony Hood and Charlie Betts won with a great score of 46pts. They won by 1 shot from Barry Jacobs and Paul Hitchen. In 3rd place Phil Kitchen and Tim Hatchett scored 43 and taking 4th place with 42pts, Peter Frith and Chris Raw. Well done to all the prize winners. Can I apologise for not taking any photo's as I had to rush off to Ikea as I was trying to miss the traffic. I failed!!! This Sunday sees an exchange with Filey. Can all those going on the bus please make sure you are at the club early as it will be leaving at 7.45 prompt. It will not wait.

Click here to see the times for Filey. Those highlighted have paid for the bus.

GREENS

This week, the greens have been pencil tined after all the wet weather we have had to help them breathe. The greens were sprayed last week with a fungicide as there is quite a bit of fusarium about due to the wet and warm weather. This will be followed up with iron, seaweed and potassium feed for colour and to "harden" turf. We have been prepping the area on 12th for seeding which is looking good. We are starting to get regular leaf fall now but still plenty of cutting to be done as grass is still growing quickly.
