I start this week's newsletter with a fantastic offer on Hornsea Golf Club logoed Callaway golf balls. £20 for 2 dozen balls. Now that is a great deal for December and saves you nearly £12. Stock is going down quickly already so don't miss out before they have all gone.

Another week into December and Christmas is getting ever closer. Many members have taken up the offer of 20% off gents and ladies clothing. Some have bought for themselves and some have bought gifts for others. Remember most of the clothing I stock now isn't just for golf.

Talking of Christmas how many of you are going to come and play in the fun 'Bring a Prize, Win a Prize' competition on Boxing Day. It is a 13 hole Stableford with times available from 9 o'clock until 10.30. Cost to enter is a wrapped prize to the value of £5 or more. The presentation is done as soon as the last card is brought in to me. It is always a great day. To book a start time, please ring the shop from now. Guests can play and no green fee is charged if you have anyone staying with you.

I mentioned a few weeks ago that next year I was going to start stocking a bit of PING. Well last week I went to the Titleist stock room and you will be pleased to hear that from next year Titleist clubs and balls will be available too for all those Titleist fans.

It is good to see that the Christmas Am Am on Friday the 18th is now nearly full. Only 2 slots are available both from the 9th tee. I have attached the current sheet. Please check your team and let us know if it has changed. I am sure after the presentation there will be a few fun games of darts and snooker for anyone that fancies staying. It usually ends up as quite a good evening.

SLOW PLAY

Yet again on Saturday I had a lot of complaints about slow play. I know it is not just Hornsea that has problems but most golf clubs at the moment will be talking about it. At a meeting at one of those clubs it was agreed to use a set of rules called 'Ready Golf' which are below. By using these ideas I'm sure pace of play would be improved. Can those that stop at the halfway house please make sure as soon as your food is ready you tee off as soon as you can. There is nearly always a back log of players on the 10th tee some waiting more than 20 minutes.

Goal: To play a round in 4 hours or less.

Keep sight of the group in front of you, not behind you.
If the group in front of you is on the fairway, your group should be on the tee.
Be ready to hit when the group in front moves to next shot.
Pick up if you cannot score on the hole (Stableford/Matchplay)

On the Tee,

No "Honours" - the first player ready tees off (except Matchplay, unless otherwise agreed)
Shorter hitters should be prepared to tee off first.
Carry an extra ball in your pocket in case you need to play a provisional.
If you think your ball maybe lost, play a provisional.

On the Fairway,
Hit when ready, but safely, no "honours"
Shorter hitters should hit if longer hitters are waiting.
Watch other players hit shots so as to help find stray balls.

Lost Ball,

Other players should generally play first before coming to help look for a lost ball.
Do not take too long looking for a lost ball - five mins is the absolute maximum under the "Rules of Golf"
Let the group behind play through if they are waiting, particularly if a ball is in the deep rough.

On the Green,
Leave bags between greens and next tee, not in front of the green.
If one player is having trouble around the green others should putt up until the player in trouble is ready.
Get ready to putt before it is your turn.
Whenever possible continuing putting until holed out.
First player in the hole picks up the bag.
Move quickly off the green, record scores at the next tee.

PRIZE PRESENTATION

Just a reminder that this Sunday starting at 4pm is the Juniors, Ladies, Seniors and Gents prize presentation. It starts at 4pm and it would be great see all members supporting those players who have done well this year.

EAST RIDING ALLIANCE

After another great win for Hornsea as reported last week I have put up all the entry sheets for the remaining events which start at the end of January. I shall continue to pick players that have supported all the events so far. We are now leading so let's continue the good form next year. www.eryga.co.uk

GREENS

All the leylandii are now out on the 7th tee on the 10th side. The 6th side will hopefully be done before Christmas but at the moment after doing course set up it is all hands on deck to get all area's re turfed were the bunker work is been done. Hard to believe but there are over 30 leylandii to come out from the 6th side and they are all quite big.

Back to the bunker work and it is all going well. Those that played last weekend or this week would have seen that the 12th is now complete with just some turf work to do. The 13th at the time of me writing this was well on the way with the right hand bunker filled in and re turfed and the new bunkers on the left hand side taking shape. A new drain has also been put in from the bunkers behind the 14th tee. The bank on the back of what used to be the old green is also to be softened. I would think by the time you all receive this newsletter on Thursday work will have started on the 9th hole.

Srixon AD333 golf balls - 2015

Srixon AD333

Switching to a yellow ball in the winter is not a bad idea, it will certainly save you from losing so many balls for when you stray off line and when the light is fading. Srixon's AD333 is an excellent option; give it a go and see how you get on.
