Well as I sit and start this week's newsletter it is Saturday afternoon. Even though it is still very wet under foot and after been frozen solid earlier, what a nice change to see a bit of sunshine. Funny how a bit of sunshine does seem to cheer everyone up. Let's hope it last's. Well as I'm finishing this on Tuesday it is dark and miserable again!!!
We have a few great offers in the shop at the moment. I have now been allowed to sell off some of last year's demo clubs. They are all in fantastic condition so don't miss out on a real bargain as you can save yourself over £150. There aren't many left though after this weekend.
We are also selling off last year's Callaway XR model woods. MRRP was £279 and we have them now for only £175 which again is a saving of over £100. If you are looking for a new putter for 2016 we have also reduced the ones we have in stock.
The clothing sale is still on until the end of this month with many great offers. Keep your eye on the shop as things change daily.
With Paul away on his honeymoon I took the junior lesson on Saturday morning. It was freezing but there was still a good group of kids and they all had a great time. If any of you have any children or grandchildren or friends with children please bring them along. You do not have to book, just turn up on a Saturday morning. We provide the balls and also the clubs if they don't have any. The cost is still only £2.50 and weather permitting it is on every Saturday at 10am.
For many years some of the honours boards in the Rolston Bar have needed to be updated. Well for all of you that have been waiting to see your names up in gold the boards are in the process of all been done at the moment.
I mentioned last week about doing a gents handicap review. I have been asked to mention by Patsy that the ladies one was done last week and all ladies informed of any changes.
USE OF TROLLIES
I know I have mentioned this before but I really can't believe how many of you are still taking trollies with large bags whilst the course is so wet. On Saturday I would say 10 people took a trolley to everyone that carried. If you really must take a trolley put a small light bag on it.
I am sure many of you are more than capable at this time of year to take a small carry bag with half a set in. You would not walk as far, you would be warmer, the course would benefit and you would become fitter. It was good on Monday to see so many of the seniors making an effort and carrying though. I have a few pencil bags with stands that are ideal for this time of year. They are on special offer at only £30.
The amount of people that are ignoring the ropes is also becoming a problem with those that continue to take trollies. When it comes to the summer and I start hearing complaints about bare lies around the greens it will be down to those that do not go round the ropes. Please think about what you are doing if you are one of those that insists on taking a trolley. Can all members that see people not abiding by the rope rule please tell them. They will end up spoiling it for the rest.
We even have a member that is over 80 and happy at this time of year to carry half a set in a small bag.
On Tuesday whilst writing this it is still far too wet for ride on buggies with some areas on the course that you really would get stuck. This is reviewed daily.
WILDLIFE AT HORNSEA
Now we all like to see a bit of wildlife and over the past few months we seem to be attracting quite a bit at Hornsea. I'm sure you will have all seen the odd rabbit or two and those out early will have seen the deer. There are so many different birds out on the course also. But have you all noticed the buzzard that is flying around the 16th at the moment and in the last week two people have told me that they saw a kingfisher near the pond on the 5th hole. So for those that are not enjoying your golf next time you are playing, maybe just have a look around. The golf course really is a truly wonderful place that we all take for granted. Please if any of you take any photo's I would love to see them.
AERIAL PHOTO'S
I am just wondering if any member has got a drone that can take pictures? I know more and more people are getting them and it would be great to get some aerial photos of the course at different times of the year. If you have or know somebody that does can you please let us know in the shop.

GREENS
Well it has been another wet week under foot which makes getting things done on the course difficult. It has meant that the trees between the 5th and the 11th at long last have been able to be thinned out and tidied up. This is a job that has needed doing for the last 20 years. Some trees have also been thinned out on the 16th. Ground conditions were a little better on Tuesday so the turf work to line the new bunkers started again.
