1st September…. Just where has this year gone!!! Is it just me, or as you get older time seems to pass so much faster?
Won't be long before I'm putting the sheet up for the New Year's Draw!!!
Talking of putting sheets up, last week I put the sheets up for the East Riding Gents Winter Alliances.
Please put your name down if you would like to be considered for the team. We narrowly missed out last year so this year I really want a strong team playing in every event.
Some more new additions came into the shop this week. I really like the new Hornsea Logo shirts. Why not take a look next time you are in and treat yourself to one
Alfie Anderson Wee Wonders Final
Last weekend saw Alfie head up to St Andrews to play in the Wee Wonders final at St Andrews. The final was played over 2 days on the Strathtyrum Course and Alfie even though he did not win had a great time and I'm sure from a message he sent me will learn a lot from the experience and have memories forever. His dad also sent me a message that despite missing part of their family holiday they really had a great time and Alfie did really well.
For all the final scores please follow this link. Alfie was in the boy's 9-10 age group. Some good golfers out there. In his age group one of the boys shot a 69 gross!!
The video attached shows him playing a par 3 and knocking it to 5 feet.
AGM & Members Meeting
Can I just thank all who made an attempt to attend the Golf Clubs AGM and Members Meeting last Thursday. It was a little disappointing though that only 43 people attended. That is less than 10% of the membership.
One question that was asked was why do we do our greens maintenance at this time of year when the greens were really good and is it really necessary to do it at all? I have heard other people asking the same so hopefully this will give you the answer, click here to read the GCSAA's (Golf Course Superintendents Association of America) explanation.
Filey Exchange
I am still waiting for quite a few to pay for the Filey exchange. I really need it before the end of this weekend. Can I just thank Dave Smith and Mike Rozenbroek for standing in and making the numbers up. This is the new start sheet.
Snooker Room
Last Friday saw the snooker table move back upstairs. A big thanks goes to those that helped to move it as the slate was apparently very heavy.
Paul Lockwood has been very busy decorating the room upstairs and re-positioning all the cue racks etc. A TV will be put in the room also.
New sofas have been ordered and will be in place shortly in the Rolston Bar.
Seniors Captain
I'm not sure how many of you know but our Seniors Captain Gordon McGlynn has recently been in hospital for a fairly major operation. Well I'm pleased to tell you all that I spoke to Gordon on the phone and then he popped up to the Golf Club last Friday.
I'm sure all the members wish Gordon a speedy recovery and we all hope to see you back out playing when you feel fit enough.
Not The Best Of Lies
Now as I have asked for before I love to see pictures of people in interesting positions whilst out playing. Now this picture shows where Mark Snape hit his shot to whilst playing the 14th last week.
Now how on earth did it finish there and I would have loved to have seen the picture of how he tried to play it!!! Can you beat this one? Please keep the pics coming in.
Always Be Prepared!!
You might remember a few weeks ago I mentioned about Graham Winship falling into the pond on the 11th. Well; Graham has been away on holiday for a few weeks and I had not seen him since. Well this Saturday he made his first appearance since visiting the pond and with him not been the greatest of swimmers he came well prepared just in case he had the same problem by walking into the shop with arm bands on!!!!
By it was funny. I think it will be a while before his pals let him forget this one!!
Tuesday Club
It has been a couple of weeks since I have mentioned the Tuesday Club but with one month remaining it does look like Charlie Betts will be favourite to lift this year's title. But it is a funny old game golf so let's see if anyone can reel him in.
Challenge Cup Final
I just want to finish off this week by mentioning a great achievement away from golf from one of our members.
Scott Taylor who plays rugby for Hull FC had a great day last Saturday as he was part of the triumphant team that lifted the Challenge Cup at Wembley.
Now this is one of the best pictures I saw with Scott and his very proud father Kev.
Well done Scott from all the Black and Whites at Hornsea.
