So this week, as you receive this newsletter, the final preparations will be taking part for the opening ceremony of this year's Ryder Cup. The opening ceremony is on TV at 10pm tonight. The matches start tomorrow and if you see me over the weekend I might well be a little tired as I intend staying up and watching it all as I really do enjoy the Ryder Cup. Let's hope Darren Clarke and his team can do the business on the tough Hazeltine course. I know of one member who has gone, Andrew Dickinson, so I hope he has a great time and sends me some pictures.
Click here to take a look at gorgeous Hazeltine and to read more about the course.
Whilst on golf away from Hornsea, I must mention the sad passing of Arnold Palmer.
I'm really a little too young to remember him playing in his prime but what he has done for golf is truly amazing.
I did think the article the BBC put on their website was really good. Here is the link.
Hard to believe I know but it is only a couple of days until the start of October.
With this in mind please make use of the preferred lies and embedded ball rules that last right through until 31st March.
For more details on these rules please read the following:

Last Friday I had a very enjoyable day at Hessle Golf Club playing in the Ladies Winter Alliance Pro Am. Can I just thank Rosie Atkin, Sue Robinson and Caroline Barker for putting up with me! I played quite nicely but once I got to the green it was a different story! I know I'm not on my own though, to struggle on the greens at Hessle. I would love to know if anyone has any information on how to read them as I always struggle round there. It was quite funny when we finished as the clubhouse was full of Hornsea members so well done Hornsea for supporting the event.
Can I please just remind a few of you again that keep asking for shots back that it is a committee decision not my personal one and proof is needed from those asking. If all members played in enough competitions or put in supplementary cards, the committee would be able to do something. There is a manual that we have to stick too. Please bare this in mind when asking.

RYDER CUP HORNSEA STYLE
Well, I for one am looking forward to this event on Sunday and it is great to see the sheet is nearly full. I have not been allowed to see it but I hear that Rees Brown has sent out a motivational email to all his team. Well that might be all well and good, but in the end I want the Captain's team to win, so on Craig's behalf this picture and quote from Seve is for the Captain's team. I also hear that Rees is encouraging all his team to wear blue so can those playing in the Captain's team wear something as bright and as colourful as possible to outdo their efforts.
JUNIOR FUNDRAISING AM AM
Nice to see at last that this sheet now has a few more names down. The sheet is in the Rolston Bar if you do want to play and support our juniors and also help to provide funds for going into the local schools to do some coaching.
TUESDAY CLUB
Hard to believe but Tuesday 27th saw the last of the Tuesday Club for this year. What a season it has been too, as I can't think of one missed week due to the weather. This week's winner with 38pts was Dave Laughton which equalled his best score of the season. In 2nd this week was Darrell Slingsby with 37pts. Ian Pearson claimed the nearest the pin on the 18th. As you all receive this newsletter all players will be out on the course competing for the Rolston Bar Trophy. I shall do a full report for you all in a couple of weeks of all overall prize winners as I'm away for a couple of days next week.

NEW FURNITURE
I'm sure most of you will have seen them by now but 6 new chesterfield sofas have now arrived in the Rolston Bar.
This has now given much more room to sit in the Rolston Bar.
We are still waiting for a bit of decorating to be done.
GOLF SOCIETY OF GREAT BRITIAN
As a member of Hornsea Golf Club it does open up quite a few other things for you. This is another one that I thought some of you might be interested in as it is a way of playing some of the best courses in the country for a much reduced fee. They also hold events at other clubs which all look like great days. Please click here take a look at their website for more information and how to become a member.
TREE SPADE
Weather permitting, on Wednesday 5th October a company call Ruskins will be coming in with a tree spade to move some trees for us. This is a very impressive piece of kit and if you click on the link here you will see what it can do. There is a video at the bottom of the link. The plan is to put some trees in around the 7th tee. These trees will come from other parts of the course and will be mainly pine trees.
Now Steve Robinson sent me this video early in the week. This is how they do it at Augusta!!
TEMPORARY PLAQUE
A few of you might have noticed the plaque on the 3rd tee that was put in last week at the same time that the silver tees where put out. It is worth a read if you have not already done so!!
Shaun Prout, a few months ago, struggled slightly on this hole and so his brother Steve thought it would be a nice touch to commemorate the day!!
I have a feeling Shaun will be getting his own back on his brother!!
ANOTHER SWIMMER!
We have another member who thinks the pond in front of the 11th is for swimming in!! This time it's Jim Whitchurch that decided to take a dip yesterday!! Unfortunately Phil Hargreaves wasn't quick enough to take a photo!!
Gareth has put together a great report from him and the team this week, so all you greenkeeping buffs please click here to read the full report.
NEXT WEEK
Can I just finish off by saying that next week I won't have chance to do a newsletter as I'm away with Yvonne for a couple of days celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary that was last month!! My fault we are a month late as we were busy with events in September.
