I know a few of you know that I have had a little heart trouble over the last few years. Well tablets are no longer working so I am going to undergo a small procedure at the beginning of November. They are going to do some ablation's to try and stop the electrics in my heart misfiring!! Can't say I'm looking forward to it but I know it needs doing. I shall keep you informed on how I get on in a few weeks' time!
My right hand man Paul Gibson is away for a couple of weeks in Japan on holiday so I will be taking the junior lessons for the next couple of Saturday's.
I am looking forward to seeing some new faces and also to see how everyone is progressing. Paul as this newsletter goes out is currently in Tokyo but will be jumping on the bullet train tomorrow and start doing a little touring around.
This is a picture of them at the airport just about to set off.
Well with all the rain we have had recently the ground conditions have changed a little. It is this time of year when I always change from soft spikes in my shoes to spikes to make sure I don't slip. This is something we can do in the shop for you but it is not a 2 minute job so please leave them after you have played and they will be ready for the next time you play as long as we can get them out. As you can see from this pair that came in on Saturday you would not get much grip from these and risk slipping!
We have a new sign near the first.
It is something that has been mentioned before but far too many golfers still take trollies between the green and bunkers and also take buggies far too close to the greens.
Maybe now more people will be more careful where they go.
COULD YOU BEAT THIS!!
Now I don't know how many of you will have seen this but last week English man Joe Miller won the World Long Drive competition. In this clip you will see how he did it using a Callaway driver. It is like driving the 10th hole from the white tee!!
Now I wonder how many of you will put your backs out trying to swing like him!!

SHOWS YOU SHOULD ALWAYS ENTER THE COMPETITIONS
On Saturday playing for his first time in 5 weeks as he had been away touring the USA, Steve Robinson thought he would be a little rusty so decided not to enter the competition. Well he was far from rusty and he should have entered. He scored 43pts which included a 2 nett 1 on the 9th hole! If he had entered he would have won the competition!! Just shows you should always enter even if you have had a 5 week lay off!
EAST RIDING EGGS ALLIANCE
On Thursday 28th September a team from Hornsea comprising Malcolm Hester partnering Ron Wainman and George Hornsey partnering Peter Acklam, played at Cottingham Park Golf Club, playing for the Eggs Alliance Trophy, see the acclaimed monstrosity.
The competition may be new to many seniors, it was started by Cherry Burton back in 2008, whereby clubs from around the east riding are invited to play a 2 man team playing a Stableford competition where both scoring points are added together to deem the winning club.
The tradition is that the winning team hosts the event the following year, that honour has been placed on Hornsea for 2017, both teams came in with 40 points each, winning by 2 points.

GREENS
When I wrote this on Tuesday morning there was still no news regarding when the tree spade would be repaired and with us. Hopefully it won't be much longer. Gareth at last managed to get out and spray the greens with a fungicide on Saturday afternoon with the wind finally dropping. He is a little concerned that we might have a few scar marks though as with it been so windy for the last couple of weeks he was not able to get out and spray as soon as he would have liked. Leaves, leaves and more leaves is the big job at the moment with the never ending task of trying to keep the playing areas as clear as possible. The bridges this week on the 2nd and 10th have been repaired and all the tees have now been solid tined. If you play toward the end of the week you might well see a machine that is on demo from Adamson's. This is an aerator so we shall see what results this gives us.
GANSTEAD MATCH
Last Sunday saw Mick Russell get a team of 22 players from Hornsea together to play the yearly match against 22 of his old pals from Ganstead. It was a shame 3 of the Hornsea players dropped out last minute and left 2 Ganstead players without a game and one having to play as a Hornsea member. Such a shame as a lot of organising had gone into the day to get the numbers correct. The weather as we all gathered was not great with heavy rain falling but everyone was still in good spirits with all sorts of banter going around. By the time we teed off it was not bad at all and within 20 minutes of the first group starting the sun was out and it was tee shirt weather. All games were very close with many games going right down to the last putt. In the end it was a win for Ganstead 4 ½ to 5 ½. A great meal followed the game for all who played and the banter continued through the presentation. It will be back at Hornsea next year and revenge will be sweet I hope!!
