Last Friday I went to Castle Hill for my Pre Operation checks. All seemed to go ok and I haven't heard anything from the hospital so fingers crossed I should be in on the 2nd of November. Depending how it goes I will be out of action for a short time. You all know me though!!! Sorry Yvonne. I guess I should listen to the doctors for a change as you only have one heart!!
With Paul away in Japan enjoying himself I did the Junior Lesson on Saturday. It was a great turn out with 17 attending which is great for this time of year. Every one of them impressed me and if I remember as I am doing the lesson again this Saturday I shall take a few videos for you all to see. I think you will be impressed.
I very much prefer to carry in the winter and it is amazing how carry bags really have improved over the last few years. They are so much lighter and better balanced now. I haven't got any in stock at the moment but I have just got myself a Sun Mountain waterproof carry bag. It really is perfect for the winter. It is expensive though but you get what you pay for. Please ask to see it next time you are in the shop. Many companies now make lightweight waterproof carry and trolley bags and always remember just because it might not be in stock I can always try and find one for you. Be warned though I know the waterproof carry bags and trolley bags are all selling out quickly this year.
SATURDAY CLUB
This week sees the start of the Winter Saturday Stableford Competition. Entry fee is £10 payable at the Shop on or before 19th November. Weekly Stableford scores are recorded by players in the book found in the Rolston Bar until April 2017. The best 10 scores over the period of Winter golf are counted for the overall order of merit. There are two handicap divisions, 0-12 & 13+ (as at entry) and all money collected goes in prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd in each category; single highest individual weekly score; gross 'eagles' recorded; and also a wooden spoon prize.
So remember to record all your weekly scores and get 10 in! This is an extra, friendly, members' comp that runs alongside and in addition to the Club and Pro Stablefords that members are also encouraged to support throughout the Winter months.

BUNKERS
Now I know most people do rake bunkers but it is a real shame when I get sent a picture like this one on Sunday morning. Is it really so hard to pick up the rake and smooth over where you have been.
I'm sure the culprit would not like it and would be the first to complain if they found their ball in one of those prints. Please leave the bunkers how you would like to find them.
There is a rake in all the bunkers.
JUNIOR FUNDRAISING AM AM
On Sunday it was fantastic to see so much support for the Junior Fundraising Am Am. The weather looked as though it was going to be nice as everyone set off in the 9am shotgun start but from nowhere a few heavy showers caught some out and the temperature definitely seemed to drop.
26 teams took part and with some donations from a few members and with a few auction prizes a total of £1275 was raised on the day. The money raised goes not just towards our own Juniors at Hornsea but also to encourage new Juniors to the game by going into local schools. Can I just thank all that played and donated prizes. I must also thank all those that contributed very generously in the auction. It really was a great day.

WE HAVE ANOTHER SWIMMER!!
It has happened again. On Saturday Lindsay Ward became our latest member who mistook the 11th pond as a swimming pool!! Now his playing partners are not really letting on as to what happened but Paul Duckworth did have the chance to get a picture of Malcolm Train helping Lindsay out of the water. I did hear that Paul was not too happy with Malcolm though as he was very quickly to Lindsay's assistance and Paul only had chance to take a couple of pics and missed him fully in the water!!! From what Lindsay told me it wasn't as bad as it could have been as he elected to jump in feet first after feeling himself slipping whist taking his stance to play a shot near the waters edge!!
LADIES CHRISTMAS SHOTGUN
On Tuesday Hornsea Ladies Section organised a Christmas Shotgun Am Am with teams coming from all over Yorkshire. The weather for the time of year was fantastic with some even playing in t-shirts. It was also great to see many getting into the spirit of the event with some wearing Christmas hats and Christmas sweaters!!!
The winning team with a fantastic score of 87pts was a team from Hainsworth Park, D Welburn, D Hill, A Lightfoot & T Thompson. 83pts was next, J Elder, S Howell, P Thrush & J Tennison from 3 different clubs, Hornsea, Cottingham & Hainsworth. 3rd place went to C Barker, W Lockwood, H Brocklebank & J Sykes from Hornsea, Hainsworth and Ganstead.
In the end 6 prizes were presented to the top 6 teams and from the comments on Facebook and Twitter it looks like everyone had a great time.

SENIORS DON WHITE TROPHY
The Seniors held their Don White Betterball competition last Wednesday and coming out on top with a fantastic score of 46pts was the newly appointed Seniors Captain Ron Wainman and our Catering Manager Paul Nelson.
This is the 2nd year in a row that Paul has won the Don White.
CONTINUOUS HANDICAP REVIEW
Last Wednesday evening the Golf Committee met and quite a few gents received shots back in the 'Continuous Handicap Review'. There is now a computer-generated report which flags players with 7 consecutive 0.1 handicap increases in competitions or supplementary scores. Your name will not flag up until this point. I know many of you ask for shots back but until the committee have this evidence nothing else can be done.
TIPS FROM ONE OF THE BEST
Now it is not like me to put anything on the newsletter regarding coaching but this article was on Twitter earlier in the week and caught my attention. Well worth a read especially if you were an Arnold Palmer fan.
