Can I thank everyone that attended my draw on New Year's Day.
Yet again it was fantastic to see the clubhouse so full.
Please click here for the list of the prize winners.
Congratulations to all the prize winners and a big thanks to all who supported it.
Also on New Year's Day 16 people entered the traditional weigh in. Paul Duckworth, Paul Lockwood, Wendy Lockwood, Nicky Salzl, Dave Salzl, David Schofield, Ian Lockwood, Lindsay Ward, Paul Gibson, Bar man Neil, Rees Brown, Andy Giles, Paul Sharpe, Lee Guest, Craig Gawthorpe and myself. With £80 at stake for the winner I'm sure all will be trying very hard. If you see any of the above please feel free to offer them all a bar of chocolate or a bag of crisps as I'm determined to win!!! The date of the final weigh in will be Sunday 26th February at 1.30pm. Good luck to all.
For those that attended the Clubs Presentation Night the photos of the winners are now online on the Hornsea Golf Club website. Can I just give a big thanks to Leigh Gawley and his wife Jayne again for taking all the photos on the night.
GENTS CAPTAIN
Also on New Year's Day after my draw we had the changeover of Club Captain with Craig Gawthorpe handing over to Allan Scarlett. Following the handover Allan got dressed up for the traditional drive in in a Captain Scarlett t-shirt and an owl hat. He is a big Sheffield Wednesday fan not that I would personally have told anyone that hence the owl hat!!
It was also nice to see the Lady Captain and Junior Captain also hitting a few tee shots. Unfortunately our Seniors Captain could not be there due to him recently having heart surgery.
Can I just thank Joe Palmer who kindly took photos on the day. Good luck Allan. Enjoy your year.
BRING A PRIZE WIN A PRIZE
Boxing Day saw a great turnout of 32 players for the Bring a Prize, Win a Prize competition.
It really is a great way of walking off the excesses of the day before and also helps to clear a few heads.
Winning this year was Joe Palmer who with the first pic of all the wrapped prizes managed to win himself a café clock!!!
He was well impressed…. It all adds to the fun of the day and next year it would be great to see even more of you out having a go.
USE OF TROLLIES
Now I know a few of you don't like me going on about where you can and can't take your trollies but why would anyone take a trolley straight over the top of the 16th mound.
I really do despair at times!!

GREENS
All the greens staff have had a nice break over the last few weeks so not much has been done other than the day to day work in setting up the course. The plan over the next few weeks will be to finish off the bunkers on the 16th and 17th by edging them and finishing off turfing them.
Tomorrow we have a 4 members starting work on improving the ponds on the course. They are starting with the pond on the 13th. If you play tomorrow I'm sure they would appreciate a little encouragement or a bit of food to keep them going. If anyone else would like to help please contact Paul Duckworth who is leading on this project.
I know for many years lots of questions have been asked as to what happened to all the fish in the 11th pond and why do we not re stock it. I also know of many members who have put fish in the pond but are never seen again. Well on a quiet morning between Christmas and New Year whilst Gareth was setting up the course he came across the cause of our problems. We have a mink. If you look up about them you will see that they really do eat just about everything.
Click here to see a video that Gareth managed to take.
PICS FROM THE COURSE
I have had a few pictures sent to me over the Christmas period but this one from Paul Lockwood I think really sums up a lot of days we have had recently with the cold frosty starts to most days.
MOBILE PHONES
I did also like this picture that was sent to me by Paul Duckworth as this is a common look in our house these days. What did we all do without mobile phones!
