Pros news

Good afternoon.

Quick newsletter this week as we are very busy in the shop this week. We emptied it all on Sunday and spent the early part of the week giving the shop a really good clean. We have also installed a new till so as we have brought stock back out it has all been checked off and entered into the till. Everything is now bar coded so whatever you purchase we shall have to scan it etc just like most other shops you go to these days. This will help us massively not only with keeping a check of the stock but to also make sure we are ordering the correct things that people want to see in the shop.

Steve Carmichael has asked me to put a quick note in this week. On New Year's Eve whilst playing in the Am Am at Hornsea Steve miss placed his Wilson Fat Shaft 9 iron. Has by chance anyone picked this up and still has it in their bag. It is Steve's favourite club and he is really missing it. Please drop it into the shop if you did pick it up and have forgotten about it. I guess there will be a large reward with it been his favourite club!!

Paul is away this week with his wife and in laws so I shall be taking the Junior lesson on Saturday. It would be nice to see some new faces if any of you have any children or grandchildren that might fancy it. 10 o'clock we leave the shop.

It has taken some sorting out but do you all remember a few months ago I mentioned about a tree spade coming here to move tree's and put some around the 7th tee. Well weather permitting we have another date booked. Wednesday 1st February. If you haven't seen the machine in action please click here to view. It is quite impressive.

If you do play on the 1st February some holes will be closed whilst this work is been carried out.

RISE HALL

Now this might be of interest to not only members but also visitors that read my newsletter. Last week I went to Rise Hall (famed for the tv programme when Sarah Beeny took it on when it was an old derelict school) to have a look round as they are now doing bed and breakfast there. If you want to stay somewhere a little special then look no further. It is an amazing place now. The bedrooms are large and they are fantastic. Please have a word in the shop with myself or Yvonne and we shall give you more details. I am waiting for them to send me some more information and I shall pass these details on when I have them regarding prices etc.

EUROPEAN TOUR FANTASY LEAGUE

So the season has started and we have 26 people in the Hornsea Golf Club league. Taking the early lead is our Junior Captain Matthew McDonnell who got lucky with some of his picks last week!! Shaun Prout though really needs to try harder as he is propping up the bottom of the table!! Click here to view the table from last week. I've only had a couple of people hand over £5 to make our league more interesting. Please if you want to be part of it put £5 in an envelope with your name on and hand it into the shop.

SILVER TEE IRON CHALLENGE

Unfortunately due to the course closure this event did not go ahead on Sunday. We have rearranged this for Sunday 12th February. A new sheet is up in the clubhouse now for you to put your names on. Tees will not be carried forward. It was great to see so many people wanting to play last time so get your names down early so you don't miss out. Remember this is an individual competition and there are prizes for ladies and gents.

Course news

PITCH MARKS

After last week's newsletter went out I received a very nice email from Mick Rollinson a member of Waterton Park Golf Club. Amazing who reads my newsletter!! He was kind enough to send me this which I thought was very good.

"With regard to your pitch mark problem I think it is an issue at every club more so at this time of year when the ground is soft.

One of my pals came up with the following mnemonic which has been plagiarised by a number of clubs locally and I was thinking it might suit your needs at this time strategically placed by the first tee."

- Players should not play until the players in front are out of range
- Players should ensure that no one is standing close by or in a position to be hit by the club, the ball, or any stones, pebbles, twigs or the like when they make a stroke or practice swing
- If a player plays a ball in a direction where there is a danger of hitting someone, they and their playing partners should immediately shout 'FORE!'
- On hearing 'FORE!' - Crouch, cover your head with your arms and count to 10.

Club news

HOLE IN ONE!

Congratulations goes to Micky Moulds who after playing for 30 years managed to get his first hole in one yesterday On the 7th hole at El Paraiso yesterday.

The weather looks a little better there!

LADIES LOCKER ROOM

Work has started on the ladies locker room to replace the lockers and make it look much better. Colin Evans and Peter Bridges started on Monday ripping out all the old lockers and they will be spending many more days making the room right. Yet again a big thanks goes to them for saving the club money on installation costs.

CLUBHOUSE FUNCTIONS

Tomorrow see's Hornsea celebrate Burns Night and it is good to see so many going with it been full. I hope you all have a great night and are not suffering too much with bad heads on Saturday!

GREENS

The cold weather is slowing down the progress on the bunkers but hopefully by next week they will be all edged and lined. We have a bit of a problem at the back of the 4th green with a collapsed drain but that is in hand and will be sorted if it has not been done by the time you receive this. It is the time of year when all the maintenance takes place also to make sure all the kit is in fine shape and all mowers sharpened etc. for the start of the season.

PICS FROM THE COURSE

Nobody has sent me anything this week. There must have been the chance for a few good pictures. Let's see what happens this week.
