Pros news

On Monday I went down to Chessington with Nathan to the main Callaway Fitting Centre. It was a couple of years since our last visit and yet again we had a great time trying to find the magic set up that should help us to improve our games. The new Epic driver really is something a bit special and whereas I didn't find much more distance (think it's becoming an age thing) Nathan really did. I was definitely more accurate though with what I was recommended Iron wise other than some slight adjustments that I can do in the shop we were both similar to what we are using. Probably the best thing for both of us though was the opportunity to have a putter fitting like a tour Pro would have. Both of us saw huge differences in how we could get the ball rolling better just by using the correct putter. Only problem now is we have to wait for them to be delivered!

We have received more deliveries this week and the shop is looking great. It would all look better on you though!!! Remember you always play better if you look the part.

Weigh In

So this coming Sunday at roughly 1pm sees who will have won this year's weigh in. Paul Duckworth, Paul Lockwood, Wendy Lockwood, Nicky Salzl, Dave Salzl, David Schofield, Ian Lockwood, Lindsay Ward, Paul Gibson, Bar man Neil, Rees Brown, Andy Giles, Paul Sharpe, Lee Guest, Craig Gawthorpe and myself are all in contention. You must be there though to get weighed on the same scales that will be positioned in the same place to have a chance of winning though. The winner will be decided on percentage of weight lost. Good luck to all and we shall see you on Sunday.

European Tour Fantasy League

Well I'm very happy to report that after an inspired pick this week of Brent Rumford I topped the weekly standings this last week. That result has got me right back into contention and sees me in 2nd place overall. I'm only just behind Paul Gibson now but with lots of big money events to play for even Shaun Prout who at the moment is at the bottom of our league is not out of it. So far only 9 people have paid the £5 to enter our league and if you want to join in I'm going to say I need your £5 before the Masters starts on 6th April.

Hull & District Open Meetings

It is good to see names are already appearing on the entry sheets for this year's Open Meetings.

If you would like to play please look at the sheets that are up in the gents locker-room.

East Riding Alliance

Last Wednesday the rearranged fixture at Scarborough South Cliff was played.

The first pairing Steve Uzzell and Nathan Wright would claim second place with a fantastic score of 64 missing out on first by 2 shots. The second pairing of Ady Rosindale and Sam Middleton struggled to a 74 meaning Hessle overturned their 2 shot deficit into a 1 shot lead. This week's results will be in next week's newsletter with the team heading to York to try and reclaim the lead.

Hull and District Alliance

Last Thursday the alliance was at Beverley with us looking to gain further shots on Hessle. Hornsea's best score for the day was a 5 under 64 from Paul Duckworth and Mick Russell. This not the greatest score but not a disaster however compared to Hessle's score it was a bad result. Their pairing of Brian Drake and Steve Fairbank scoring an 11 under 58!! This leaves us 9 shots behind with 2 events to go so hopefully it's our turn for a very low number now with us having home advantage with the next event being here at Hornsea on 2nd March.

Ladies Alliance

Last Thursday playing at a very wet Pike Hills our pairing of Wendy Lockwood and Angela Clappison did really well coming 2nd. Hornsea our now lying in 2nd place overall to Malton who hold a commanding lead. Come on girls. Big finish to the season can overhaul them.Competition news

Course news

Pics From The Course

I have a 3 great pictures for you today and one not so good. The first one was taken by Sue Howell last Friday morning on what turned out to be a lovely day as shown by the picture of Rees Brown hitting some balls on the same day in the afternoon. The 3rd picture was taken by David Blanchard and again is looking up the 18th but what a fantastic day it was. The last one is poor, Rees Brown found his ball on the 4th hole whilst playing on Saturday. He should have maybe taken a slightly more lofted club whilst trying to get out of the bunker!

GolfSixes

Aiming for a younger demographic

The European Tour have introduced some innovative ideas for the season ahead. The World Super 6 combined 54 holes of stroke play with a final-day knockout, whilst GolfSixes, which takes place later in the year, sees two-man teams battle it out over six holes in a group stage, before progressing to a final-day knockout.
