Ladies Pro Am
Tomorrow sees me make my annual trip to Brough Golf Club to play in the Ladies Pro Am. This year the team is our Lady Captain Sarah Stonier, Vice-Captain Sue Howell and Past Lady Captain Wendy Lockwood. Wish us all luck and I shall let you know how we get on next week.
April Showers... Of Snow!
On Tuesday morning, I looked out at 6am to see quite a covering of snow. Gareth sent me a message just before 7 after he had been out on the course to say the course would be closed until it had cleared. Luckily it didn't take long for it to clear and the course was back open by 8.15.
For those that don't believe it here is a picture of the 18th green taken at roughly 7.45am.
New Sets Available in The Pro Shop
On Friday I saw these clubs leaning against the side of the clubhouse. I would say the ball scoop is the most valuable thing in the bag!
Please Support
I know we hold quite a few Am Ams for local charities, but this year the Fire Brigade are holding one to raise funds for a little local girl; Maisie, who needs to raise £20,000 towards her surgery. Please support this event if you can.
Yorkshire Members Meeting
We have a Yorkshire members meeting here next Thursday 4th May and have managed to get some great Clubs across Yorkshire to give us some courtesy times. Please ring the shop if you are prepared to travel and fancy a game somewhere else. Alternatively, I am looking for starters to help out on the day, so if you would like to help out please ring the shop.
Course Etiquette
I am not a huge fan of too many signs, but I saw this on Twitter earlier this week and it got a lot of comments from clubs all over the country.
There would be a few that shouldn't go past it if we had it up here!
Course News

Some of you might have noticed that Gareth has now put sand into the new bunkers on the 16th and 17th. These will remain as 'Ground Under Repair' until Monday when they will be fully in play. Please also note that 'Preferred Lies' comes off on Monday also with it been May 1st.
Request For Fish For The Ponds
Well after asking last week if anyone would like to give any fish or donate any money toward some so far not one person has offered! If any of you would like to though please speak to Paul Duckworth or have a word with us in the shop.
Members' Meeting
One of the comments made at last week's members meeting was that the re-bunkering hasn't made much difference to the amount of bunkers we have, so I thought I would let you know what the changes made have done.
So far, we have done 11 holes and the number of bunkers has gone from 51 to 38. The 7 holes that are left to do will see those reduced from 44 to 24. All the planned changes can be seen on the club's website or by clicking here.
Euro Pro Tour
The first event of the Euro Pro Tour started yesterday and Steve Uzzell is again competing. To keep a track of him please click here.
A Team Win & an Ace
It was a little too late for me to get this in last week's newsletter, but well done to the Hornsea Ladies A Team, who beat Beverley away last Thursday.
Also well done to Jan Elder who also managed to get a hole in one on the 18th after she had won her game easily. A nicely struck 5 iron did the business.
Well done Jan.
Don't ask her what happened though, just before this picture was taken!
Hornsea Weekend League Ladies also won against Sandmoor 2/1 on Sunday. Sue Howell was on fire giving 13 shots and winning her match 8&7.
Well done Ladies - great win against last year's finalists! Thanks for the report Jan.
Results Just In
Yesterday saw another great win for the Hornsea Ladies. This time the B team had a great win over Malton 5.5 to 1.5. It's a fantastic start for the Hornsea Ladies with all teams so far remaining unbeaten. Keep up the great work girls.
Seniors Captains' Cup
Yesterday the Seniors held their Captains' Cup and in fairly terrible conditions.
Paul Lockwood Snr with 35pts came out on top and retained the trophy he won last year.
Can I just congratulate all who went out. You all deserve a medal!
Knockout Matches
So with only 3 days left before the first round of some of the knockouts need playing by there are still 10 games that need to be played.
No extensions will be given. It does say clearly on the entry sheets and on the rules of the Match-Play competitions.
**Match-Play Competition Rules**
Members must hold a competition/active handicap before playing the first round of any Knockout Competition
1. Stipulated Date
* Each match must give a minimum of 3 available dates for a match
* Each match must be played on the stipulated date, or on an earlier date if both sides agree.
* If one side cannot play on the stipulated date and the match is not played on an earlier date, the other side may claim the match by booking a time on the stipulated date and presenting himself/themselves, ready to play at that time, in the Professional Shop.
* If both sides cannot play on the stipulated date and the match is not played on an earlier date, the match result shall be determined in such manner as the players deem appropriate (eg by the toss of a coin).
* Failure to obtain a result to a match will lead to the disqualification of both sides.
* At least 3 dates must be given by either party and a date agreed.
2. Extensions
* In exceptional circumstances and with the agreement of both sides, the Golf Committee may extend the stipulated date for semi-final matches and final matches only. The maximum extension is seven days for a semi-final and fourteen days for a final.
3. Format of play
* All match-play competitions, except the Maw Scratch Cup, are handicap competitions with strokes given and taken in the usual manner equal for the full difference in handicaps in singles matches, 90% of the difference in handicaps measured against the lowest handicap in better-ball matches and ½ of the aggregate difference in handicaps in foursomes matches.
* Play shall be from the white tees for gentlemen and from the red tees for ladies.
* There are no restrictions as to which player may take the opening drive in the mixed foursome competition.
* A match played on the stipulated date, which finishes all square after 18 holes must be decided by sudden death, if circumstances allow, with strokes given and taken according to the stroke index. If additional holes are not possible, the match result shall be determined in such manner as the players deem appropriate. Matches played earlier than the stipulated date, which finish all square after 18 holes, may be replayed if the players agree but the replayed match must take place on or before the stipulated date.
4. Recording the result
* It is the responsibility of the winning side to see that the match result is recorded on the draw sheet by the stipulated date.
* Failure to record the result of a match will lead to the disqualification of both sides.

European Tour Fantasy League
Better week for me this week with all of my picked players making the cut. Just a shame that my captain didn't perform slightly better! Only problem for me was that nearly everyone else had a good week too! Here are this week's results.
Darrell Slingsby coming out on top this week with a great score of 1,388,20 which was 252nd in the world this week. It does help when nearly all 6 of his team finished well up the leader board and even had Bernd Wiesberger as his Captain.
Paul Gibson is still the overall leader though after another good week. I'm sure he will slip up soon.
Steve Robinson must have tried harder this last week as he also had a great week and moved well away from the bottom of our league.

Pics From The CourseOne from me this week! Last Friday morning when I was out on the course putting the nearest the pins and hole sponsors out for the Hornsea Football Am Am, the course really did look stunning. I couldn't resist taking a picture of the flowering cherry behind the 11th green as it looked spectacular. Shame it doesn't stay like this for longer.
Andy Fox also posted some great pictures on Twitter that he took whilst playing on Saturday morning. He must also like the cherry tree on the 11th.
