Stretton's News

On Monday 'placing' was taken off, so I hope none of you have broken the rules this week! The bunkers on the 16th and 17th are now also in play and the areas behind the 8th and 13th green have now recovered, so at the moment we have no local rules in place at all.

As I mentioned last week I made my annual visit to Brough to play in the Ladies Pro Am last Friday. What a great time we had and the golf wasn't too shabby either with us just missing out on a team prize and myself picking up a few quid for coming tied 7th.

Can I thank Sarah Stonier, Sue Howell and Wendy Lockwood for making it such a great day. We really did have quite a laugh on the way round. I was a little worried when they hit the port on the 9th tee and then re-enacted the scene from Titanic on the 15th tee.

Great fun though and the way golf should be played.

For those that follow the Hornsea Golf Club Twitter and Facebook pages can I apologise as we have had a few issues this week but all seems to be back working ok again now.

This Sunday is the Tomlinson Family Cup. It would be nice to see a few more playing than we usually have. Remember the rules of entry are; open to pairings from any family unit, other than those comprising of both spouses/partners. Pairings may comprise of one or two generations, who will not necessarily be living in the same household.

Greens

With us getting so busy on the course and with temperatures at last rising a little, our greens staff are busy every day with cutting, tidying and generally making the course playable for everyone. Please if you are playing give them a little time to complete what they are doing. Remember they do have priority at all times.

Members news

Silver Tee Iron Challenge

The sheet is now up in the Rolston Bar for the Silver Tee Iron Challenge. This is a Monday night shotgun, to be played on Monday 5th June and will be a 5pm start. There is no limit on how many irons you take, but remember no more than 14 clubs may be in your bag. It will be an individual stableford and there will be trophies and prizes for ladies and gents.

Another Hole In One At Hornsea

On Sunday playing the 17th hole Simon Johnson was the latest Hornsea member to achieve a hole in one. A well struck 6 iron found its way into the hole. I was told it was very lucky!

Well done Simon.

Exchange Dates For Your Diaries

I know all these dates are a while off, but I don't want any of you to miss out on the chance of going on any of the Clubs Away Day's.

We have 3 this year and they are, Sunday 30th July to Scarborough North Cliff, Friday 4th August to Easingwold and Sunday 10th September to Filey.

The sheets and more details will be available for these later in the year.

Euro Pro Tour

Steve Uzzell has started his season off well after finishing tied 4th in the first Euro Pro event of the season. You can follow his progress here.

Competition news

Hornsea Over 50's Open Am Am 3rd May

Hornsea had a great turn out again for its first Over 50's of the year. Testing conditions though made scoring difficult for most, with golfers struggling with the stiff cold northerly wind and dry firm conditions. Fast greens also had a few struggling too, but as always when I was sitting checking cards it was a pleasure listening to all the great comments on our course.

For those from away from Hornsea that read my newsletter, it was great to see you all again. One team definitely found the conditions easier than most winning by 10 clear shots. Don't worry though, the cards from the top few scores will be going back to their home clubs. Below find all the prize winners and leading scores. Please note we have other events through the year and this same event next year is already filling up. Please contact the shop for more details on 01964 534989.

1) A Kinghorn, P Lockwood, M Train & N Cook
2) M Bird, T Redmore, K Fitzsimons & J Mullins
3) P Mounfield, J Wilcox, P Wills & D Turner
4) G Drewery, G Foley, B Muir & J Smith
5) P Scott, S Branton, M Cooke & T Sproats
6) D Johnson, C Patrick, R Unwin & P Thorpe

Hornsea 2nd & 3rd Division Open

Last Saturday Hornsea hosted the 2nd & 3rd Division Open. I sat in the clubhouse all afternoon sorting and checking the cards and it was a pleasure to listen to so many compliments about our course from members of all the local Hull and District clubs. Below is a picture of the leading scorers. It was worth making a 2 on Saturday, with the 5 that did picking up just over £42 each!

Hornsea Mixed Invitational

Monday was the Hornsea Mixed Invitational AmAm, when a good field all took part in the one gent, one lady to count team format. This really is not easy and any score under par is usually very good.

Coming away with first prize this year with a fantastic score of 12 under, 84pts was the team of Sue Howell, Lindsay Ward and Sarah & Martin Keightley from Hessle. Very well played.

Knockout Matches

In the end, all matches did get played or at least a name(s) was put forward which is fantastic. Just a quick note that the next round needs playing by June 4th. Please get your games organised as soon as possible and don't leave it until the last few days unless you really have too. Remember, no extensions will be given. It is great to see quite a few games have already been played.

European Tour Fantasy League

Peter Bridges led the way this week with a great score after picking out Alex Levy as his captain. Paul Gibson still leads the way though, even after not such a great week.

I continue to slip down the leader board, but there is still a long way to go and I shall never give up! Hard to pick again this week as it is quite a poor field for this week's event in Portugal.
