Pros news

Stretton's News

Firstly to start with this week can I thank everyone for their concern over Yvonne's father. He is back home now and is doing well after his heart attack, treatment and short stay in hospital last week.

Well as I am putting this newsletter together on Tuesday morning the weather is really quite nasty. Not the sort of weather that we would like at this time of year.

The long term summer forecast though is very good, so let's keep our fingers crossed.

With this in mind can all ladies note we have a sale on all ladies clothing at the moment with 20% OFF.

Don't miss out as the stock is going down quickly. For those ladies that are not members or live away please follow this link.

Hornsea Juniors Defend Their Title

The Hornsea Juniors have done it again by defending their title of East Riding Junior Team Champions at Driffield last Thursday, a title they won in 2016 with a score of 207, one shot better than their winning score last year and five shots clear of their nearest challengers.

Hornsea were represented by William Marshall (68), Harry Anderson (64) and Albert Anderson (75) with the three players now heading for Sandburn Hall Golf Club on Sunday, 9th July representing the East Riding for the Yorkshire Finals.

We wish them well.

Fish In Pond

Not fish, but how many of you have noticed the tadpoles in the 11th pond.

There are thousands of them all around the front edge of the pond.

Hopefully you can see them in this video.

Score Card

Can all golfers think when entering a competition please. How am I supposed to know who's card this is!

No name, no date, no entry number!

Entry Sheets

The sheets are now up in the Rolston Bar for a number of up-coming events. Please read the top of all the entry sheets as all the information is there.

Invitation Day, 25th June. (Please only book in 4 balls)
Captains Weekend, 1st & 2nd July.
Jack Major, Norman Seaton, John Wood Chalices, 15th July.
Silver Tee 4 clubs and a putter challenge, 17th July.
The "Open" Am Am, 23rd July.

Success story

First Time For Steve

It really is becoming a regular thing at Hornsea at the moment. This time it was Steve Newton who made his first ever hole in one, playing on Sunday in the Mixed Open.

A well struck 6 iron on the 7th hole, which Steve never saw made its way into the hole.

The 4 ball in front all saw it go in and were shouting and cheering, but Steve apparently had no idea!

Well done Steve.

Captain Fantastic! Not Golf Though…

I'm moving away from golf for this bit of news.

We have a few members of the club that play football and some to quite a good standard.

One of these is Ashley Dexter, who this year captained Hall Road Rangers.

The team had a great year winning the league title.

On Saturday night the club held there award ceremony and Ashley did quite well posting the below on Twitter.

Well done Ash from us all at Hornsea Golf Club.

Competition news

Hornsea Fire Brigade Am-Am

Last Friday the Hornsea Fire Brigade held there annual Am-Am at Hornsea. What a great event it was too as Mick Bateman and his team managed to raise just over £2,300. A great effort by all involved. There was an interesting member of one of the teams on the 13th tee!

The prize winners were;
1st T Rainbird, S Rands, S Delgaty, D Martin 91pts
2nd S Milner, B Templeman, L Fitchett, C Betts 91pts
3rd I Lockwood, J Jeffries, A Giles, P Sharpe 88pts
4th S Allen, N Jordan, W Jordan, N Cook 85pts

Past Captains Am-Am

Yesterday Frank Palin yet again did a fantastic job organising the Past Captains Am-Am. In very windy and tricky conditions most found scoring difficult. 70 was the winning ladies score with Wendy Lockwood's team and 80 the best gents score with Paul Lockwood's team.

A fantastic meal was served to everyone after the golf, followed by a raffle and a very funny auction. Well done Wendy.

I don't have a total figure raised yet, but yet again it was very successful with the money raised going towards improving the ponds.

Mixed Open

For many years, the Open Mixed Am Am has been very popular and this year was no different with teams coming from all over Yorkshire. Many have already booked for next year as they enjoy it so much. Again it was a privilege to sit on the desk taking the compliments about our course, which Gareth and his team had done a great job preparing.

In the end it was a team from Hull and the KP Club that came out on top with a fantastic score of 88 points in the tough format of one lady and one gent to count. This in the end won by 6 clear shots from 2 other teams. Prizes are vouchers that are in the shop at Hornsea and are given to the top five teams. Many thanks to all that played and we hope to see you all again soon.

1st A Cooke, S Swann, A Beattie, A Beattie 88pts
2nd K Taylor, D Goddard-Taylor, D Jefferson, D Cross 82pts
3rd S Newton, T Worsnop, S Teal, B Teal 82pts
4th D Walker, T Fethon, M Brown, B Brown 81pts
5th M Miller, J Miller, J Plumtree, M Plumtree 80pts

Gents Scratch League

Some good and some bad news this week. The A team lost away at Scarborough North Cliff 3-1 on Friday and the B team beat Driffield 3-1 at Home. Both teams are still top of their prospective leagues.

Click here to how the tables stand.

European Tour Fantasy League

Ok so it wasn't a great week for anyone this week with everyone in the Hornsea league struggling. Paul Gibson is still at the top of the overall leader board though and it looks like David Blanchard Jnr has given up as he is now well rooted to the bottom of the table! He had some strange players in his team last week.

Hornsea 1st Division Open

Last Saturday saw Hornsea host its 1st Division Open. Conditions were very good after the overnight heavy rain. Comments again from all that played were very good about the course as I sat doing the cards, even if some had struggled with their golf. The prize winners are below.

Best Gross Billy Hewitt (Ganstead) 72 £55
2nd Gross Jonny Fisher-Ulliott (Hornsea) 74 £40
Best Nett Andy Fox (Hornsea) 69 £55
2nd Nett Joe Singer (Cottingham) 70 £40
3rd Nett Rob Draper (Cottingham) 71 £30

Team Winners

2nd £15 Paul Brummitt 36pts

Junior news

Another Anderson Success

Monday night saw our Junior team travel to Scarborough North Cliff, who are top of the junior league and our team did well drawing the game so taking 1 ½ points each. Well done.

I must also mention Lilly Anderson (yes there is another Anderson) and Seth Topham, who have both made it through to their categories of the Regional Qualifying last Sunday at Leeds of the Wee Wonders and will now take part in the Regional Final, which will be played later in the year. I shall let you all know more details of this when I have them.

Pics From The Course

This week I have been sent a stunning picture by David Blanchard Jnr of the 11th hole, a moody picture by Paul Duckworth looking back down the 14th and one Gareth took of some more wildlife on the course.

This time a hedgehog!
