Club Championship Last Saturday saw one of the largest fields we have had for a number of years to compete in three of our most prestigious competitions we hold at the club. The Jack Major Trophy for the under 10 handicaps, the Norman Seaton for the 11 to 16 and the John Wood Chalice for 16 to 28. For the Jack Major and Norman Seaton, this is a 36 hole Medal to decide the winner of the trophy, but there are some nett prizes. The John Wood only have to play 18 holes of Medal play, but they have a gross and nett trophy to play for. Scoring was excellent in the Jack Major with many of the players in contention after round one. It needed an excellent gross 69 from Leigh Gawley in the afternoon to take the title though by one shot from new member Matty Raybould, with Luke Robinson just one further shot adrift. Congratulations Leigh and well done to all who played. The Norman Seaton looked like it was down to just two players after the first round with Adrian Bird and Adrian Foord well clear of the rest of the field. They both struggled under the pressure in the afternoon though, but Adrian Bird just managed to hang on despite many golfers playing much better in the afternoon. For all of you that think it is too much to play 36 holes, I must just mention Pat Slaven who made it round twice and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge. Charlie Betts came out as the winner of the gross prize in the John Wood and Steve Prout, who must have played better than he did the week before, won the best nett. Please find all winners below and also a picture of all the scores. There were too many 2s to mention them all, but were worth £5.66 per 2. If anyone has any ideas on how to make this an even better day please let me know in the shop or leave some feedback here.
