Good afternoon to you all. So in the last couple of weeks I have mentioned about spikes in shoes. Well I’m pleased to say some of you have taken note and brought your shoes in to be sorted. I must show you a few pictures of Adrian Birds shoes though after a slight slip which made him look at his. If any of you have spikes like this they need replacing as soon as possible.

You can see I have changed mine to full metal spikes and they will be what I use for the rest of the winter.

The world of golf

So the big news as far as I’m concerned from the golfing world this week includes two stories. The first is Tiger possibly starting on his way back and the second the parting of company between Sergio Garcia and TaylorMade after 15 years. Two golfers that I know most of you will have watched over the years. Both worth a quick look at below.

Don't start tempting us!

I know it might sound a little strange, but Yvonne and myself are now just over a week into an 8 week diet plan which as far as I can tell so far, involves eating and more eating! I have never had so much food! I must admit though that it is all very healthy and everything is all weighed out. All going well so far and we are both losing weight. Our plan has been put together by Martyn Pace from Nuffield Health who used to work for me and he obviously knows his stuff. Click here to see his website.

Talking of losing weight keep reading my newsletter as I am currently in the process of trying to get full members of Hornsea Golf Club a deal to join the Hornsea and other local East Riding gyms at a reduced price. I should have some news regarding this in the next few weeks.

Are you in the hole in one club

For those of you that haven’t as yet made a hole in one, you will love this video of Edoardo Molinari given 500 attempts to try and make one.

I remember a Captains year when both myself and Richard Pace spent all day on the 7th and 12th trying as neither of us had ever had one at that time. I no longer have to worry though. Well worth watching and quite funny.

World Wide Handicaps Are Coming

England Golf has welcomed plans unveiled today to develop a single World Handicap System for the sport.
The USGA and The R&A have announced they are working with golf’s handicapping authorities to develop a universal system which will apply all over the world. Firm proposals will be made later this year.

Currently there are six different systems around the world, providing handicaps for over 15 million golfers in more than 80 countries. Handicaps reflect a player's skill and mean golfers of different abilities can play and compete together on equal terms.

CONGU Changes 2018

Changes to the CONGU UHS System have recently been announced. In view of the proposed introduction of the World Handicap System (WHS) these changes have been kept to a minimum and take into account some of the options likely to be adopted in the WHS, principal of which is to encourage players to submit more scores to their handicap record.

Junior Captain Matt Showing Some Style

After his recent birthday Hornsea Golf Clubs Junior Captain Matt McDonnell had some money burning a hole in his pocket.

It didn’t take him long to decide what to spend it on though when he visited the shop at Hornsea and tried on a few things.

I dare not write what he said about how good he felt he looked in his own words, but he was very impressed!

Yorkshire PGA Winter Pairs Betterball Pro Am

The Winter Pairs Series Pro Am’s have DROPPED in price from £100 to £80 per pair. This is due to a sponsorship deal with ProQuip. The events are to be held at the following courses throughout the winter with Hornsea hosting an event on Friday 16th March 2018.

Hornsea Seniors Triumphant Again

Of the 8 clubs that turned out with 2 teams from each club, the victors with the combined scores of 79 points were the defending club Hornsea, represented by Ron Wainman & George Hornsey with 39 points and Gordon McGlynn & Collin Porritt with 40 points, and the trophy was presented by the EGGs captain from Hainsworth, the runners up were Hainsworth with 78 points.

Hornsea will have the pleasure of hosting the trophy in 2018.

Hornsea Cricket Club Annual Fundraiser

Sunday saw a great turnout for what is now becoming an annual event at Hornsea Golf Club to try and raise some funds for Hornsea Cricket Club. 15 Golf Club members and 21 players or ex-players from the Cricket Club played in the event which is organised David Prescott.

What a great event it was too. Phil Silverwood came out on top as the overall winner on 42pts with Jon Bickerdike coming 2nd just 1 point behind. He beat Douglas Griebenouw on the back 9.

Well done Terry & Angela

I must also at this point just mention Terry Clappison, who with the help of Angela have helped Hornsea Cricket Club win the Highest Marked Ground award which was presented at the Yorkshire & District Senior Cricket League dinner held at York racecourse last Friday.

Seniors Invitational Betterball

Yesterday Malcolm Hester and his team of helpers held another very successful day with senior golfers coming from all over Yorkshire. The weather conditions were not great with a strong wind blowing and a few heavy showers in the afternoon. This didn’t affect the scoring though as many of the pairs broke par.

In the 60-64 age group it was a pair from Filey that came out on top with a great score of 43pts. That was 2 shots better than local pair Dave Whitton and Phil Kitchen. That score was also matched by a Hessle pairing. 42pts won the 65-69 age group. This was from a pair who had travelled from Market Rasen. Two pairs from Cottingham took 2nd and 3rd with 41 and 40pts. 70+ next and again a great score of 40pts from a Scarborough South Cliff pair. This was 3 clear of a pair from Hainsworth Park.

I know it’s not the best picture but below are all the scores. From what I hear all players really welcomed the halfway house. Well done girls.

European Tour Fantasy League

Another mixed week for me finishing in 6th place which gained me a few points on Paul Gibson. I need a week like David Prescott who scoring 1,526,987pts topped this week’s results. Only 6 events left now.

Pics From The Course

Not really a picture of the course, but a picture showing what a great job Darrell Slingsby and Chris Reed did on Monday clearing weed from the 5th pond. It really would be great and take far less time if we had more volunteers to help with jobs like this.
