As seen this Sunday, he still needs to do some work on his rather errant long game at times, but going out of bounds on the 16th didn’t cost him the win as Rory McIlroy returned a fantastic final 6 holes to win quite comfortably in the end. Seeing Rory finally manage to get something going on the greens was great in the build up to The Masters with so many players being bang in form. For those of you who are gambling men, personally I think looking at the conditions of this past week with the course being quite firm and fast look for Augusta to be set up quite similar so those who did well this week might be worth a little bet!
I know it really hasn’t been the weather for working on your game but that hasn’t stopped me. With the shop been so quiet, I have managed to grab the odd opportunity to do some practice. I, like all golfers, am always striving to find the magic move. Many of you that have played with me know that I have quite a short backswing. This is something I have been working on and have found an extra 10mph of clubhead speed, which is a lot. The downside to this is that I am now hitting it all over the place, but I shall sort it. Something that helped me get a little longer is what Pete Cowen calls the “Spiral drill” Henrick Stenson works on this every day. Give it a try as this is something you can work on at home.
