Your Chance to Speak To The Chairman On Tuesday 10th April, Rosie Atkin our Club Chairman would like to meet and have a chat with any members that have any ideas to help to improve, support and move the club forward. She will be in the clubhouse from 7pm and would love to see members with their thoughts and ideas. I’m sure you will all have lot’s of ideas so this is your chance. Hornsea200 Update The recent bad weather has impacted any golf we wanted to play over the last couple of months, but with Spring finally on the horizon and the extra hour of daylight some midweek evening training can begin in earnest. The lack of golf has meant we can focus on the admin side of things. We have just created our fundraising pages on the Just Giving website. If you’d like to sponsor us, the easiest way of doing so would be to type Hornsea200 into the search bar. We have set a target of £1,000 for each of the 2 charities - CRY and Help for Heroes. We’ve already received some very generous donations within hours of these pages going live, so hopefully we can break our targets! Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far! Speaking of which, we have been blown away this year by the amount of people who have said they want to support us. Our caddy list is filling up – there isn’t an upper limit this year with caddies per round, the more the merrier as it keeps us going. There will be a list going up in due course, but if you are wanting to caddy, please note we walk pretty quickly, it’s not quite a jog but can leave you a bit breathless if you aren’t used to walking at speed! A little bit about the day itself. We will be teeing off at 10pm on Thursday 28th June and aim to play 54 holes in darkness (10pm-4am) by playing night golf which the club successfully trialled late last year. The holes are still TBC but likely to be on the top field, maybe playing a loop of 6 between the 7th & 12th. Then from just after 4am on Friday 29th June, we will play the remaining 146(!) from the 1st tee with each round taking approx. 2 hours to complete. For the mathematicians amongst you, this is 8 full rounds and 2 holes. We will play the 1st and 18th one final time for holes 199 & 200, hopefully finishing in the late evening twilight at about 9.30pm in front of a packed patio area.
During the day and early evening, Paul Duckworth and Lindsay Ward will once again be putting their BBQ skills to the test by catering to the masses and the evening will be capped off from around about 10pm when Misty & The Relics (a local band featuring Hornsea members Paul Lockwood Snr, Malcolm Train, John Cordock and Pete Rotherham along with Mollie Thompson) will be performing a set of crowd pleasers in the clubhouse – although I’m not sure we will be in any state to dance! Thanks for reading and if you are wanting to support us in anyway, please get in touch with us or with Stretton - we really can’t have enough helpers / supporters on the day.
Kind regards Joe Palmer & Leigh Gawley
