Stretton's News So, unbelievably, even though the PGA Tour season only finished two weeks ago, the first event of the 2018/2019 season was played last week. A new season brings around lots of new questions, what players will do well, who will perform in the big events, who will have a season of struggle and most importantly who will win the 10 million dollars come the end of the season. All the players have big plans and goals for the year and this brings me to Justin Thomas. Last week, he tweeted a picture of his goals for last season and whether they were complete or not. His goals ranged in difficulty and although, some are very difficult for ourselves to track at our local competitions it is something everybody should be looking at doing. If you are going to set yourself these goals, it is important to record every round whether that be good or bad. |
|
Examples of goals you could include could be a certain handicap reduction, number of putts per round, average score on par-3s and the list goes on. You could set the goals for any range of time from a month to a year. Write them down somewhere safe and look back at them at the end of your timeframe and see how you’ve done. This will give you some specific areas to work on by seeing which ones you achieved and which ones you didn’t. |
Volunteers Making A Difference Below is a message which I received from Lindsay; "Hi Stret, some pictures from today. 13th pond done and path at the 14th tee. Some new volunteers today; Sally Bird, Keith Marshall and George Mason. Not many people available next Monday, so we are having a week off. Then we are moving onto the 11th pond on Monday 22nd October. Regards, Lindsay Ward." This really is great to see as I’m sure everybody will say. Seeing people put their own time in for the good of the course really does save time for the Greenkeepers and allow them to concentrate on other jobs around the course. We all appreciate the time the volunteers are giving up and if anybody wants to join in and help, give myself or Lindsay a call. |
Night Golf The sheet for the Night Golf event is still up in the clubhouse with a few spaces left. Speak to anybody that played last year and I’m sure they will all confirm what a great experience it was. From tee to flag, it is all well lit with the light up balls making it easy to find even in the bushes as I’m sure a few visited! Click here to learn more. |

Captains Challenge On Sunday, Rees and myself had a great game against Mike Brooke and Peter Blood. There was never much in it all the way round. We reached the turn all square despite being five bits up. We won the 11th with a birdie to go one up but, between Mike and Peter, they won the next three holes so we stood on the 15th, two down and not looking good. A great four nett three from Rees on the 15th and an eagle three from myself on 16 got us right back in it. The 17th was halved in three but it was Peters shot down the last that proved decisive as he made an easy four nett three. That gave them a one up victory and our first loss for a long time. We did have six bits though. A great game and a generous donation were made to the Captains Charity. |

Pictures From The Course Those that play with David Prescott will know that he is renowned for taking fairly big divots. On Sunday, Mick France couldn’t believe the size of this one though that he found on Sunday whilst out playing. Apparently, it was nothing to do with Dave though! |
|
This picture isn’t from our course but it is of one of our members with a rather famous face. After being one of the lead forces for Europe at the Ryder Cup, Tommy Fleetwood followed it up with a tied for second finish at the Alfred Dunhill Links in Scotland. Lucky for Angela Clappison, she managed to get to meet him earlier in the week and get a picture; I'm sure many including myself would love to have been able to get. |

Greens Nearly finished with the spring tine rake and very pleased with the results. If we get a break in the weather/wind we shall spray the fairways with a little bit of feed and herbicide. It has been noted that the first few white posts have been removed from the 18th along the houses. They will be replaced ASAP. This behaviour is unacceptable. |
Keeping You Updated Following the resignation of Sam as our Steward, we are pleased to announce that Hornsea Golf Club members Emma and Jonny Hanson are taking the catering franchise from Monday 29th October 2018. Many of you may already know them as active playing members at the club, but in their working life they have been running a catering business for the last 15 years and working together for three of them. We look forward to Emma and Jonny joining the team at Hornsea and wish them every success for the future. |

Sometimes it's nice to reminisce about the good times. When it comes to golf, the days of persimmon woods, small clubheads and hitting balls which were hard as a rock are long gone - but it can help to take a trip down memory lane to remind us of just how much technology has developed, particularly in the case of drivers. |
Time tunnel
Take PING for example; you might have been lucky enough to own its revolutionary G5 driver way back in 2006. The G5 was made from titanium, featured internal weighting distribution and who can forget the iconic half-moon alignment aid? It's definitely a collector's item, and is sure to be remembered with fondness. Fast-forward to the present day, and PING has released its most technologically advanced driver to date in the form of G400. The streamlined shape results in 15% extra clubhead speed and ball velocity - meaning you'll have added distance along with more stability. Not only that, but PING has developed four different G400 models so you're guaranteed to find a driver that's suited to your game. So, whilst it is nice to think about the drivers of yesteryear, it's probably time to get up to speed with the latest models such as the G400. Who knows? Maybe in another 10 years time, you'll be looking back on the G400 with as much fondness as the G5! |
