Stretton's News I mentioned a few weeks ago that I had been down to see my niece and her new baby and that I had taken him his first golf club. Many have since thought I must have been joking, so here are a couple of pictures of him with his club. Could be a while before he will be using it though! |
I have one set of PING G series gents irons in stock - 5-SW. I’m feeling very generous and so I’ll be happy to sell these for £450. That is a saving of nearly £200. This is a one off offer to make room for new stock and I can’t take a trade-in against them at this price. |

Hard to believe I know but it is mid-October and that means I have put up my New Year’s Draw sheet this week. Ticket price will remain at 50p each with some great prizes to be won. All money taken, goes back into prizes and last year’s prize fund was £1624, so there were some great prizes.

Daily Mail Foursomes Rees Brown and Leigh Gawley didn’t quite manage to bring home the Daily Mail Foursomes title but they didn’t come home empty handed. Having battled through numerous rounds to make the finals at St Pierre in South Wales, unfortunately they came across a great pairing in the first round at the tough course and lost 1 down. Their trip wasn’t a wasted one though as all the losers play in a separate competition on the last day. After a late night and Rees slightly under the weather, the boys played some great golf and managed to win this competition and bring home a nice bottle of champagne each. For those that read the Daily Mail it has been covered in there. |
Junior Fundraising Am Am It is great to see that the time sheet for this event is now nearly full and can I thank all that are down to play for supporting. Let’s hope for good weather on Sunday. Remember it is a 9am shotgun start. If you can’t play but would still like to support our Juniors, please drop anything off in the shop that could be a prize or to be auctioned after the days play. We have been lucky enough to receive some green fee vouchers for local courses, which will also be auctioned at the presentation. Click here to see tee sheet.

Members Complete The Yorkshire Marathon Many congratulations to Hornsea members Nicki Salzl and Darren Reeve who both completed the Yorkshire Marathon last Sunday in terrible conditions. Both managed very respectable times too. Well done to you both and I hope you both raised lot’s of money for your charities. I wonder what is next!

New Rule Books I have had a few of you asking about new rules books as you have seen them at other clubs. I have not put ours out yet as the new rules don’t come into play until January 2019, and I know a lot of golfers will get confused by trying to use them now. It has happened at other clubs. For those that are interested, please take a look at the below link which goes through the main changes with some good videos covering the main changes. The local rule for dropping from out of bounds will be something we shall discuss at the next golf meeting.

Mike Smith was this weeks top scorer just edging out Simon Bodsworth. Both David Maxey and Jon Mitchell had bad weeks but it was really only Mike that has eaten into the top of the leaderboard.

Pictures From The Course Nobody has sent me anything this week which is a shame as the colours are fantastic at the moment as the leaves are changing. Come on you budding photographers. Let’s hope for some good ones next week.
I did like this though which I saw on Twitter. A very different way of decorating a pumpkin! I guess you must really have to be a Titleist fan to do this!

Greens Unfortunately, last Thursday we had quite a bad hydraulic leak on the 1st and 2nd greens. I’m sure those that have played will have noticed. At the moment as I’m writing this, on Saturday we are monitoring the situation but it is looking like we might have to re turf some of the areas using turf from the putting green. A big thanks to Sam Middleton who lent us his spring tine rake which has really made a big difference removing a lot of old grass and standing a lot of creeping grass up that has now been cut. This should make a big difference to the fairways. Hopefully by the end of this week, all the hedges will be finished and we shall be nearly there with the cutting back of scrub areas. We have started to verti-drain the fairways which is a slow job and yes looks a mess at first but it has to be done. In previous years you will all know that they soon settle down. The tees have also this week been given a slow release, high potassium granular feed which will help them over the winter months. |
The pond on the 8th has this week been pumped out and the plan is to get a small digger in next week to clean it out and tidy the banks. This should make a big difference. |
Interesting Thought To Finish This Week Which Was On Facebook Yesterday is history, tomorrow's a mystery. Today is a gift which is why it's called the present. Life's too short. Too many people jealous, hating and wanting others to fail. Smile, be happy and kind, you'll live happier and longer. Probably play better golf too!

If you watched the Ryder Cup last month then one thing should have become clear to you: finding the fairway off the tee is a must. Whilst distance does help, there's no point thrashing a drive as far as you can if you don't hit the fairway, finding yourself cutting down trees as a result - as depicted in the illustration below. |
Find the short stuff In order to shoot lower scores you need to put a premium on finding the fairway, something that a custom fitting for Callaway's Rogue driver will certainly help with. Its Triaxial Carbon Crown allows for a huge amount of forgiveness, meaning your bad shots will be less destructive. If you tend to miss with a slice, the Draw bias version will be the perfect option for you. | |
